Question about Canon Office Equipment & Supplies

1 Answer

My printer Canon PIXMA MX860 suddenly began showing error code 6A80. It tells me to turn off printer, pull plug, try again. I've done that several times but error code continues to show. Can you tell me what's wrong from the error code? Thanks, Linda Parcell

Hi there. I looked back there the best could, but I didn't see any scraps or bits that might impede the printer head from moving smoothly. I pulled all the plugs again and tried to restart, but alas, same error message! Help! Thanks, Linda

I sent a note yesterday that I pushed the "accept solution" button for this, but when I actually tried to use the printer after it "came back to life" it wouldn't work. I downloaded the Pixma original software and drivers hoping that would help, but still my Mac Pro now won't recognize the printer. On its own the printer is not doing well either. I tried to get it to copy a document and to scan a document, but got blanks both times. The printer definitely isn't working yet! Help more? Thanks, Linda

Hi there. You mentioned loading the original printer software that came with the Pixma, and that's exactly what I did. I'm not running Mac 10.8.6, not Snow Leopard. I went online to Canon to get the updated drivers, but had trouble downloading, so never got them. Still working on that. The printer is doing all sort of goofy things now. Whatever is going on, it won't scan or copy (comes out blank paper in both cases) . It seems to be having a general mental breakdown -- or wait, maybe that's me? Anyway, I'm still needing your help getting back to a functioning printer! Please don't give up on me/it yet! Thanks so much. Linda

6A80 is a purge unit error, the purge unit is the cleaning assembly on the right where the printhead parks when shut down. If you can move the carriage out of the corner, use a flashlight and see if there are paper scraps or the like keeping the purge assembly from moving freely.

Basically there is an "App Sensor" which is reporting the issue in my case the problem was with the "Purge unit".
    (a) Left up the cover to reveal the ink cartridges
    (b) Move the ink / print head to the left hand side
    (c) Look to the right under the flap where the ink would sit when printer is powered off
    (d) underneath there is something in white that is flat - this is called a wiper.
    (e) push this wiper with your fingers - pushing in the direction toward the front of the printer - you may need to do this a few times.
    (f) power off and then power on (using button on the front and NOT by pulling the power out of the back)

Hi! Regarding your latest problem, I guess you are using snow leopard! My advice is very simple -- Just reinstall the original CD that came with the printer!

Snow Leopard includes the relevant USB drivers so your printer will keep working via this interface. It might be a bit of a pain but forget downloading things and put the Canon CD in and follow the instructions.

Message error 6A80. Comes up with "printer error has ocurred. please turn off printer then back on again. if problem persists see manual" manual has nothing in it.

6A80 error is an APP position error caused by the APP motor during the purging operation as the printer starts up. Canon states that one of three components is likely to have failed, the sheet feed unit, purge unit or logic board. All of these will be almost impossible to get as a spare part. The only thing worth trying is an EEPROM reset that can be done using the service manual. Get a copy here:
