My iron has stopped steaming and all the holes are blocked, how does one take the iron apart I am quite handy with gadgets

I am trying to fix the lack of steam for the Phillips Azur Iron. This heavy duty iron was, I thought, the answer to a perennial problem with steam irons -after some use, no steam. I want to take it apart but have only removed the base without incident; however, the 'trick' for getting to the real problem is eluding me. Can anyone help?

I had the same problem and the Philips hekp site was no use. I turned my iron off until it was completely cooled down then switched it back on again, with the steam number turned to 5 and the heat on max. as soon as the ready light went off, i put my iron in the horizontal position and shook it back and forth (quite vigorously) and it seemed to have dont the trick!

I had exactly the same thing and went through all the manual and did the incredibly obvious things that Philips point out but then I tried it without the top cover closed fully (the one you put the water in) so some air could get in. Now I have more steam than I know what to do with. Do not know if this will work for you but it is worth a try and it looks like the plastic cap seems to get a bit blocked / melted maybe with the heat ?????

follow this test and fix it. God bless you
As with many small appliances, regular maintenance makes a dramatic difference in how trouble free your electric iron will be. Even so, things can happen.
If the iron doesn't heat, make sure power is on to the outlet, check the power cord and check the thermostat and replace if necessary.
If the iron heats but steams improperly, inspect the soleplate and clean the vents and flush sediment out of the steam chamber
If the iron produces too much or too little heat, test the power cord Also test and, if needed, adjust calibration of the thermostat .
If the iron does not spray properly, inspect and clean the nozzle
If the iron leaks or spits, clean the steam vents, nozzle, and tank.
If the iron sticks to fabric, clean or repair the soleplate. If the iron stains fabric, clean the soleplate, clean the tank with a commercial cleaner, and use distilled or filtered water.

philips do not have a manual for this iron online, sorry contact them if you want; http://www.p4c.philips.com/cgi-bin/dcbint/cpindex.pl?sct=IR_STEAMIRONS_SU&cat=HOP_IRONS_CA&grp=HOUSEHOLD_PRODUCTS_GR&session=20070313063306_83.37.63.254&ctn=HI296/54&slg=ENG&scy=GB The best way to clean these irons is with neat vinegar - try to get white vinegar and you have less smell to get rid of - fill the iron, give it a good shake and leave it overnight, then use the iron as normal (use it on a kitchen drying up towel or similar) then leave it for another few hours/overnight and then empty out any remaining vinegar and rinse through with water a couple of times. this normally solves any problems caused by limescale - if not then just leave the iron a little longer with the vinegar, also try to pour a little vinegar into the steam vent holes with the iron upturned and leave for a while. Hope this helps :)
