Question about Ruud Heating & Cooling

1 Answer

I have a Rudd deluxe 90 plus mod.uged-06emaes. The unit high limits and restarts immediately after total shutdown. (takes about 2 minutes after burner is shut down) The burner operates for 5 minutes only. Airflow problem? This install is in a duplex and both furnaces do the same thing!

The ductwork and blower are clean now. would you recommend removing the blower assembly to clean heat exchanger from below?

  • mikejwillis Jan 03, 2011

Both units worked very well for years so I believe the ducts are sized properly. Dust has been a problem for a long time. (poor housekeeping combined with infrequent filter changes) I'm a little timid about disconnecting the circuit board as I know they can be fragil at this age. Maybe I can swing it up out of the way in order to remove the blower?

Okay... it's becoming clearer now....yes, the coils are probably filled with dirt, but also check the fins of the blower wheels while you have them out...they can fill with **** and then not move the proper amount of air...
Usually you can get enough wire to just move the boards out of the way... the blower will also start to drop down as you start to pull it out of the slides...the two screws that hold the blower in can also be a bugger can take a lot of patience to get the blower out of there....and getting it back in.... well that's another story....have fun!!! The good news is that you just need to stay calm and be patient and it will all go together again....:-)

Thank You heatman101!!! You get my vote. After all the tech work, it was clear what needed to be done. I found the secondary exchanger to be 100% clogged!! Just finished cleaning the one in the other unit. (remember it's a duplex) It was 33% clogged!! I had it cleaned a "few" years ago after it broke down and paid dearly for the nice guy that did the work. People!!!! Things that move air need to be cleaned ever so often. I see post after post of furnaces that cycle on and off like mine did...... CLEAN THEM!!!! Thanks again for giving me the "courage" to do it myself.......wasn't so bad at all. Mike

Just bought a rudd 80 deluxe plus and need to know how to hook it up to power

If this is split or package unit, you're also going to need a Tstat wiring among other things. If you can do that, then connecting power is a cinch. Don't burn the house down, call a professional.

I connected 8, 100Ah battery with APC 2.2KVA inverter, now it doesnt give correct battery indication and keep producing beeping noise, whats the problem?

Continuous Beeping (theamber On Battery LED will be illuminated)
This alarm indicates that the UPS has reached aLow Battery condition and will soon shutdown. The UPS can only operate onbattery for a limited amount of time. In order to protect the unit's batteriesfrom discharging too much, the UPS will shutdown and turn off its output. Towarn you that the unit will soon shutdown, the UPS will sound this alarm 2minutes before actual shutdown. With optional Powerchute Plus software, 2minutes can be changed to 5, 7, or 10 minutes to give you more of a warning ofimpending shutdown. If you hear this tone, you should immediately gracefullyshutdown your operating system to prevent data loss or corruption.
Note:This graceful shutdown will occur automatically if Powerchute PLUS software isbeing used.

Constant, Solid Tone (the red Overload LEDwill be illuminated)
This alarm indicates that the UPS has detectedan Overload condition. If this alarm is sounded, try removing non-essentialequipment. The alarm will remain until the load is reduced. To determine ifyour UPS is capable of handling the equipment you want to protect, visit APC'sSizing Guide at

Continuous Beeps for One Minute; RepeatedEvery 5 Hours (Replace Battery LED will be illuminated)
This alarm indicates that the UPS has failed itsSelf-Test of the battery. The unit will continue to sound this alarm until theunit passes the test. Try to let the unit charge for a few hours and thenperform another Self-Test (Press and hold the on/off button until the second'chirp', then release). If it fails and the unit is still in-warranty (twoyears from date of purchase), then contact APC. If the unit fails and its outof warranty, then order a replacement battey cartridge through your reseller, distributor, or from APC's web site.

Compressor cuts out after 20 minutes then restarts after maybe 20 minutes

This is usually due to low limit or high limit cut off switches. Basically when it's low on refrigerant the unit cuts out to protect the compressor. Then after 20 minutes the pressure equalizes and the unit kick back on, or the opposite for the high limit switch.

My Kenmore Dryer 90 Plus Type DDOTELE2406028-EH54 Mod 11068942892 runs but does not heat.

The common problem in this case is in the high-limit thermostat and the thermal cut-off located on the heater housing. Verify this condition by bypassing the said components. Disconnect power then access the thermal cut-off (cut-out) and the high-limit thermostat by removing the bottom front panel.

Removing Bottom Front Panel

Disconnect the wires of each component then connect them together and insulate it properly. Reconnect the power then start the dryer. The problem is indeed in the thermal cut-off (cut-out) and the high-limit thermostat if the dryer heats up. Replace both parts and it should solve the problem. It is an easy and cheap repair to make. Let us know should you need further assistance.

I recently bought a 4 ton 14.5 SEER Rudd Spilt system using R-410 and matching Rudd furnace. This system replaced a Lennox 10 SEER 4 ton unit. Now that it has gotten hot in Baton Rouge LA 90-93 degrees....

Sounds like the Unit might be low on charge. But without correct readings not sure.
The new unit with 410 will actually cool better due to higher boiling point temp. of freon type.Poor air circulation could also cause problem.Such as dirty filter, too slow fan speed, dirty coil. Also could have obstruction in freon lines either at pump,in line set,or in coil.
Get someone u trust to check it out and ask for their Rudd Dealership Training Credentials.

Pilot light

Assuming that your make up air and exhaust hood are properly balanced, no negetive pressure conditions exist, your gas manifold pressure is at 4" wc, your air/gas mix on the burner set correctly, the your problem would be the pilot adjustment. If the flame is not intense enough flame to survive the sudden air shock, it will go out.

The pilot height should be about 1 1/2". Your Pilot orfice could also need cleaning. Eliminate excessive draft in your kitchen.

Here is the manual for your unit, it covers these topics.
