The Board is a KN Powertek KNP-3800 rev 9.0 2004-08-12. The Part Number is PN5531B283B0781. Is there a way to figure out if it's the power supply or one of the other boards. I unplugged all connectors and put them back on one at a time, when I plugged in one connector to the biggest board the light started flashing green then when I plugged in the other connector it went back to green and red alternating light.

  • john enyeart Jan 04, 2011

It continually alternates red and green at about 120 cycles per minute, give or take.

Thank you Sai. I am having trouble with the terms used in the service manual, like D_board. I don't know if they mean the digital board or the DVI board. Not that I know a lot about those boards anyway. And I never managed to find that power supply on line. I found the power supply just that they are no longer available. But your help was very good I'm just going to have to try and cipher through it. Thanks again.

I'm having to do a little guessing, the 6vdc I'm suppose to see in the second step for standby voltage on the digital board fluctuates from .8vdc to 4.9vdc, so I consider this a fail. So I check my reference voltage at CN304 which on this power supply is CN804 pin 15, looking for 24vdc, don't even have 1vdc. So condemn the power supply? I went on as if it passed at 6vdc and had the same result for the A_board. What do you think? Every step I've tried fails so I'm thinking, with the fluctuations I'm seeing in the voltage, that one of the ac buffering capacitors on the power board has failed letting ac voltage through to the dc side. I could be way off base because I'm not trained in electronics. But I have seen something similar on a power supply for an MCS panel on a compressor package I used to take care back in my youth. I could actually measure ac voltage coming out of the power supply on the dc side. I learned how much was acceptable before I would replace the capacitor and the problem would be solved. Just a thought.

That's the right part number. I found that it was out of stock everywhere I looked online. Of course I was using the K N Power tek part number, still I had the same result, and I don't know where else to look. Thanks for your help. if you can find it I would really appreciate it.

  • john enyeart Jan 06, 2011

I went there immediately and tried to place an order they said they were out of stock. Is there hope for any where else? Thanks

  • john enyeart Jan 07, 2011

Thanks for all your help I let you know how I do.

No luck, no longer available even through LG. I guess I'll have to try and find somebody who can repair the old power board, or breakdown and go new.

You can find them on shopjimmy.com. If you can just get me the part number off the board, I can find you a replacement.

Ok. What is the status of the LED infront of the tv? DOes it blink(if yes then how many times does it blink in between each pause?) or does it just stay on?

Ok. I do not want to take a guess as to which board it is. So lets test it to be 100% sure. I have uploaded the service manual for you. The test points are in the flowchart on page 14.
    http://www.mediafire.com/?inec1754h4j4mq...
It has even comprehensive details at what pin of a particular IC you have to test. Voltages are to be measured with a multimeter between the specified pin and ground. Give it a shot and let me know what you have found. If you have any questions regarding the testing procedure, please let me know.

Since you are seeing voltage drops at every point, I believe it is the power board. It does not look like a capacitor issue to me(unless you find any capacitors that are bulged/cracked at the top). It looks more like a short protect error, which can make the repair far more complicated as the schematics are not that good. Also the part number you have quoted sounds more like a serial number. The part nimber starts with 6. The part below is what I found in the service manual: 6871TPT283B. Verify this against the part number in your set. Ofcourse it is out of stock, but we can always look for it un other places if you can get me the part number

I am afraid you have to source it from LG. You have a better chance of spotting a UFO than finding it online. Call them at 1 (800) 243-0000

I have a Westinghouse lvm 37w1 tv and it keeps turning itself off sometimes it will let me turn. it back on and sometimes I have to wait a few minutes do I need to buy a new tv can I fix this myself

Hello,

It's the problem of overheating in the power supply board of the TV.on the power supply board of the TV there are few capacitors and IC.any of this IC is got short or may be weak.so due to this when you start the TV the current passes from electric outlet to the power supply board of TV.but when the current passes from that weak/faulty part at that time current gets stopped or slow and the board overheats and TV shuts off. this is a common problem faced by many other users too.the possible option to solve this issue is to check the power supply board by a meter and continuity tester and replace the faulty component on the board which is short due to which power supply board is getting overheated.its bit technical job but yes its not at all a costly repair to do or get it done by the technician. for required parts it can be easily available from local electronic hardware shop.

I hope this will help to solve the problem....

Overseas Use

Yes. The power supplies and battery chargers supplied with all Powershot Digital Cameras are designed to work on input voltages from 100-240 volts (50/60 Hz). The only item that you may need is a plug adapter that allows you to plug the U.S. type power supply or battery charger into the foreign type wall outlet. Plug adapters should be easily available at a local electronics store.
