I can transfer images from my nikon d700 to my desktop. The Nikon software have been installed in my computer. Every time I switch the camera on, to start transfer. The computer system says installed "device driver" . Whats device driver and where can I install it from? thank you....syed

Your computer is looking for a mass storage device. Go through the camera menu system and make sure "USB Connection" is set to Mass Storeage, then Windows will automatically install the drivers.

Nikon split the functionality between two programs. ViewNX lets you catalog, view, and edit your images. Nikon Transfer is for transferring pictures from your camera. Current versions of Nikon software Nikon Knowledgebase
Page 128 of the manual says: Start the computer to which Nikon Transfer was installed. So before you can transfer pictures to a computer you have to install software. If the software was not in the box with the camera, I'm sure you can get it for free with Nikon. I use ViewNX2 from Nikon, and it was and still is free. You can transfer and manage the pictures on your PC. Just visit the Nikon website for the apropriate software to your camera.
Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

Yes the software would work in your Windows 7 Operating System.
All you need to do , is install the software from the nikon CD and then connect your camera to your PC along with the Data cable , and there you go , you would have all your images and videos being shown up on your PC.
