Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

My samsung HLN5065W turns on and runs for 30 seconds. All three lights go into a blinking mode on the front of the unit. Checked power supply its putting out 387 volts DC within spec. Ballast draws 3.2 amp at startup than drops to .5A with the light lit steady. Screen looks bright like it should until lamp goes out. Any sugestions on what to check. I am a HVAC/R instructor and good with a meter. Other posts with similar problems seem to be guessing at a solution. Not my style. Thanks Ron

Perhaps an easy fix. Remove the back of the flat screen. There will be a main circuit board visible. There will be several capacitors, cylinders with a cross hatch on the silver top. Do any of them look like they have a dimple created by expansion of the internal capacitor material over heating? If you see an expanded top...that's probably your problem. Get your solder gun out and replace that capacitor. You can order a new one off of Amazon. If yours is a 10 volt capacitor, consider replacing it with a 16 volt unit. Generally the electronics companies under design the size of these units. When you replace the capacitor take note of the silver band on the unit and where its placed in the two socket holes....there is a positive and negative hole placement.

I check all caps none look budged or bad. Is there an easy way to check the ballast of the state of the lamp?

My Samsung LED has a flashing blinking light on the front. When I power on, it does not go into standby mode. It just turns solid red for a few seconds and then starts blinking. No image on screen. Is it...

I'm guessing you meant to say 'power off''. Otherwise it sounds like you have reasonably guessed there may be an electronic malfunction -- but with this, as with any device with a 'chip', I'd suggest first literally 'pulling the plug,' or if it's surge protected powering that down. Give it 30 seconds or so, then power back up. Best of luck!

TV won't turn on. flashes a series of 5 red lights instead of turning green

Usually Sony and LG Blinking Codes are the same. Here is what I have.
  • Unit is dead, No blinks - Problem in the standby power section. Might check fuse,
  • Continuous blink once a second, no pausing - No reply from the jungle IC301 (data bus is busy, shorted to ground, or held high), IK video path is defective.
  • One blink - not used for the self-diagnosis
  • Two blinks - B+ over current protection (OCP), unit goes to the standby mode then displays the 2 blink fault. Could be a short in the power supply of any of the circuits.
  • Three blinks - B+ over voltage protection (OVP), unit goes to the standby mode then displays the 3 blink fault. This is also a problem in the power supply circuit,
  • Four blinks - No vertical Deflection (V STOP), Screen goes to a single horizontal line then the video signal muted.
  • Five blinks - AKB circuit (automatic kine bias), the timer/standby indicator blinks for about 30 seconds then goes to the self-diagnosis function. Something is wrong with the video. In addition, unit could be in IK blanking, try turning up screen slightly.
  • Six blinks - No Horizontal (H STOP), no raster, goes to the blinking self-diagnosis function immediately.
  • Seven blinks - High voltage shutdown. The high voltage has exceeded 33k and the unit goes immediately into safety shutdown. Check power supply regulation and horizontal circuits.
  • Eight blinks - Problem with the audio (AUDIO), unit goes to standby and blinks the self-diagnosis code.
  • Nine blinks - Panel Module Error or Thermal Error. If it is intermittent 9 blinks, meaning sometimes the TV comes on and other times you get flashing Make sure the regulator is -12 or -13 (negitive).
  • Ten blinks - Check Q8014 and Q8013 for shorts, leakage, or bad solder connections on the " D" board. If the transistors are bad, check R8051 and IC8005, also on the "D" board.

Light blinks three times but dont turns on

  • Three blinks - B+ over voltage protection (OVP), unit goes to the standby mode then displays the 3 blink fault. This is also a problem in the power supply circuit, check T603 and R672.

It may be made up of a few faults but the power supply is a good place to start.
Hope this helps

LEDs Blink but TV will still not come on

This appears to be a logic problem, (address missing) in which case you would need to get a schmatic diagram in order to fault find. It could also be a psu problem, excess current, (trip) short, or excess voltage which is preventing the set from turning on, monitored by the logic hence, giving you blinking LED's.

TV turns off by itself after being on for 60 seconds

Led blinking Three times means B+ over voltage protection (OVP), unit goes to the standby mode then displays the 3 blink fault. This is also a problem in the power supply circuit, check T603 and R672.
Hope this helps.
