Router was working fine, then I upgraded the fw level to .29. When I did that, I could connect my 2 wireless laptop connections, but the 2 desktop pc's will not connect to the internet being wired. I have disconnected the same ethernet cable and put straight into the cable modem, comes right up. Have reset the router, still same issue. Get error not seeing IP address when try to troubleshoot the problem. any help is appreciated.

Hi,

I hope you have a Belkin F5D8233 ver :3000 wireless router and you have upgraded the firmware version: 3.01.29.

It's a known issue with this model , only the wired connection will be not be online. Another information when you connect the computer in the 1st LAN slot you will have internet connection but not with other 3 LAN slot on the router. To fix this please follow these steps,

1. Log into the Belkin router setup page (http://192.168.2.1) in a wired computer .

2. In the left hand side under the heading Utilities? click on save/backup settings

3. When its asking for password to login leave it blank and click on submit.

4. Click on save to save the settings of the router in the Desktop

5. Then again under Utilities? click on restore factory defaults and then click restore defaults button, to restore the settings of your router to factory settings.

6. Then Under Utilities click on restore previous settings and select the file where you saved it and click on restore settings.

Then automatically you will be able to go online both wired and wireless.

I'm sure this would work. If it does work then please rank me and give me a testimonial

Thanks in Advance!

With Regards,

Prema.

The problem persisted even after this - but worked without restoring the previous setup. So I restored them manually and it worked.

Router upgrade?

A new router is just one piece of the network. The components work with one another and depend on ALL the components working in harmony, you might say. One piece will not guarantee improvement in a network. Do more research, what are the Network adapters connecting? What is my ISP speed, remember, your speed will differ, sometime greatly for advertised ISP speeds. The factors are infinite, unknown, and sometimes out of your control. That said if you are using a 802.11 N or AC Wireless in your Home Network, depending on the Computer, Printer, etc. Network Adapters, etc. I use 3 different Access Points, 2 Linksys wrt54g's, 1 wrt160n , all with different SSID's and channels, connecting to 2 printers 2 Laptops, 2 desktops, iPad, Smart HDTV/Netflix, Phone, all work quite well. As I move about the devices will switch to the best signal. Remember the old saying, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". But I always try, with different levels of success . You may learn a new way not to do something, I do. Some people call it a mistake.

Since getting a new Dell laptop and Linksys E1000 (also have HP desktop), my internet connection keeps dropping (no problems ever before)- sometimes I can stay online for 2-3 hours or it can go in 15...

Hi,

we need to first figure out whether it the modem or the router which is dropping the connection.

Please connect one of your computer directly to the modem, by pass the router and access the internet. If the connection drops then its the modem which is dropping the connection and you need to contact your isp to check it.

If the internet works fine directly with the modem then its your router which is dropping the connection. To fix the router we can upgrade it firmware.

To upgrade the firmware please visit the link below;
http://homesupport.cisco.com/en-us/wireless/linksys/E1000

Note; If you are not comfortable upgrade the firmware then don’t do it. If not done properly then it can damage your router.

Intermittent Enabling

First you can try to uninstall and reinstall the driver of the wireless adapter on that desktop. Unplug and re-plug the wireless card. If it is a wireless PCI card, make sure the antenna is tightly screwed on. Install just the driver of the wireless card and not the utility/software that came with it. You can also try to change the channel on the wireless router by going to the router's user interface. If you're on channel 6, choose channel 11 and save the settings. Then power cycle the router, unplug the power for 30 seconds then plug it back in. Check now if you can connect wireless.

As you said , try upgrading your routers firmware, but the better fix would be for a n router with a n card you will have a proper synchronisation and good speed.. or else the speed will vary, for a g router and n card..

Try resetting your IP address:
The laptop may be trying to use the IP address from the old router.

1) Click Start (assuming Windows 2000, XP, or Vista)
2) Click Run
3) Type in CMD
This will take you to a black command box
4) Type in: ipconfig/release
The chart should show your IP address as 0.0.0.0
Once this has happened, proceed to step 5
5) Type in: ipconfig/renew
You should now see a new IP address listed.

Also note that you need to set up your network key (assuming that you are using one) on both the router and laptop.
Make sure that your router is set up to perform as DHCP server.
