My maytag washer legacy series model #MTW5570TQ0. Fills with water but trips my circuit before it starts to agitate the clothes. At first I was able to ship to the spin cycle manually to drain the water from the tub. So when I tried it again I could hear a humming sound and smelled something burning from the top right hand corner of the machine if you are facing it from the front. So I called customer service and told me it was the motor so I replaced the motor and still am getting the same results. I need to know what controls the washer to go to agitate cycle . After whatever was burning happened it doesn't even trip my circuit anymore after it fills with water. I need to know if anyone has the answers to anybody going through this same problem, becauseI'm sure I'm not the only one to go through this exact same scenario. I bought washer brand new in late 2007.

Hi.

The machine must be partly disassembled, accessing parts from bottom of the appliance, and checking exactly what part is giving noise and smell.
The support was partly correct in telling that the motor was involved, but should have also told you that parts must be tested, and that there is more than one part possibly involved. In this case the complete repair and testing involves reading voltages while machine is operating. For safety reasons this must be done by a technician.

About parts that can be defective, a common fault is motor capacitor. Here the part:
Capacitor, Motor Start (Motor Capacitor) (Pt 20 in diag)Check motor coupler and all parts. Ensure that the tub is not stuck and free to move. If the tub is stuck, the noise was the motor, but the fault was elsewhere.

Here all parts and diagrams for this model.

Hi

If washer fills with water but doesn't agitate, the problem is likely to be a faulty lid switch. Check the wiring to the lid switch, if wiring seems to be fine then check the tab on the lid that strikes it. If the plastic tab is broken, the washer may halt before/while agitating. Check connections to part#10 (lid switch) in below switch--

Pull the bottom of the front panel toward you. Then pull down on the front panel to release the top of the panel from the upper spring clips. Look for the two hex head screws under the front lip of the top panel. Remove the screws with a nut driver and raise the top panel up. Hope this helps... Please post back if you need more information.

The issue seems to be with the control board burnt completely and should be replaced.

The drive motor which spins the drum is connected to the drum by a rubber belt. Sounds like the belt is burned through. Make sure you can spin the inside tub by hand to verify that the tub can turn freely before you replace the belt. The hum is from the drive motor just spinning freely.

I have a kenmore 700 series top-loader washing machine. Its about 8 years old but looks pretty new. My knob turns fine but the housing enclosure for the number does not turn with the knob. I have to...

The burnt plastic smell is probably the belt that drives the agitator. There may be something stuck (wrapped) around the shaft under the agitator that tightens the gears so the belt just slips and heats up. Remove the agitator and make sure the shaft is clear. also if it is belt and gear driven, check the gears. This means removing a panel or turning the unit sideways to inspect from below. The hum is the motor either not turning or turning with the belt too tight.
Hope this helps...

send the model number.if it's humming it sounds like the motor is bad.where.if it resets after a while and hums again it's the motor.there's an overload in the motor, when it gets to hot it pops and will reset after it cools.

Washer fills with water, loud thump sound, no agitation occurs.

The thump is probably the motor trying to start followed by the burning smell of the belt slipping. See if something is jammed, but the most likely thing there is a bad transmission.

Washer won't do anything but fill.

It is very likely that the motor has burned out. What happens is that the water solenoid allows water to fill to a certain point where a fill sensor stops it. The program then moves on to activate the motor which will agitate the wash. So when power is supplied to the motor, it tries to start, overheats because of a break down of insulation in the windings, and you smell burning. Replace the motor.

The transmission might have locked up causing the motor to overheat.
