Computer screen on Toshiba Satellite L745-S4110 worked yesterday. Will not come on, stays black with computer on. What could I have touched to make screen stay black?

There *could* be a video switching setup (usually FN and f8) that allows you to switch from LCD to External and "projector" modes. If these are not in the correct selection, your LCD will be blank because the pc thinks youre watching external vga connection. But it could also just be a bad connection to the lcd panel from the main unit

Laptop broken screen... plugged in Dell monitor, still doesnt work

You can switch to an external monitor or data projector by two methods. 1. Connect the external monitor to the laptop's video port, power up the external monitor first and the laptop. The video information will automatically switch to the external monitor. 2. If you power up the laptop first then you can switch the video output to the external monitor by pressing the Fn key and one of the Function keys, depending upon your make and model laptop. You can also toggle between the external monitor or both LCD screen plus the external monitor or back to LCD screen only by pressing the Fn key plus one of the function key. Here is a list of key combinations for some of the laptops :- IBM ThinkPad = Fn + F7 HP and Compaq = Fn + F4 Toshiba = Fn + F5 Dell = Fn + F8

My computer screen becomes blank after it asks whether I'd like to stet windows normally or go into safe mode etc... Why is this?

find a good WORKING CRT [Cathode Ray Tube] monator, plug it into the VGA out. there should be a key (almost always bottom left hand corner with [FN] in a different color, usually GREEN or BLUE, look for pix [picture] of small screen on row of keyboard ( # 1 thru 0 ) and press and hold FN key with touch of # key of picture (pix) of screen. If the picture switches to EXTERNAL and stays on, then you could have a defective laptop screen. If the screen on the external CRT turns like you said then turns black, you could have a defective video output. get back to me and let me know what hattens.
Don't be afraid to REBOOT even after you have changed INTERNAL to EXTERNAL. If you have to try to switch while you have the time while you see the screen on internal laptop

Try holding down the function button on the keyboard and tap the F key with the (O) symbol above it, Its the symbol for monitor. You may have to press them a few times. That will toggle computer from its external only monitor mode. If not then hook up an external monitor to the computers vga jack and try again. If you get the external monitor to work that way and not the built on display then the built on display will need replacing and if it does not go to working at all then its most likely a motherboard issue. If the external display does work then you can continue to use it that way until you get the screen repaired/replaced.

Black screen

Sounds like your screen is being switched to "Power Save" mode due to inactivity. This should switch back when the mouse is moved. This can take several seconds on a laptop. You can remove this "Power Save" by right clicking anywhere on blank desktop, select "Properties", "Screen Saver" and "Power Settings" then select "Always On" for the monitor.

Screen stays black on startup of toshiba satellite L300

have you tried either switching between external and internal monitor usally Fn + F5 on toshiba or try plugging a monitor into the back and see if it displays.
if you get a display on the external monitor then its probably a screen or inverter fault if you donot get a display to an external screen then it is likley t be the graphics on the board itself.
hope this helps

Problem in booting then only mouse pointer display on the screen

Sounds like you messed it up well!

Suggest you cut your losses and just reinstall the system afresh
but first try booting from the install DVD and going through the process until you reach the options to install or repair
Select Repair and let the DVD try and fix it

With Acer I think you press F11 or F12 when booting to get the one time boot choice.
When you have it just select the DVD player the disc is in and let it do its thing
