Question about Whirlpool GU3600XTV Dishwasher

1 Answer

Dishwasher won't drain. this has been an ongoing problem since about 6 months after we bought it. a repair person came out and said it was our fault because we clogged up the drain. this was not true. he blew it out and then it worked. a few months later the same thing happened and continues to happen. Even if we push the drain button the well never completely drains. The dishes still come out clean though.

This happens to me about every year an a half. The drain in the dishwasher is clogging. You can purchase a cleaner to open it up. I took mine apart an was shocked at how much stuff builds up an cliffs the drain an will not finish draining the machine. Dishes are clean but not all the water leaves, after a while it leaves more water. It takes to washing with the special detergent you can buy. It's not your fault it's the way they are designed an it has to be done on mine about every year or so. You can find the stuff you need where the dishwashing detergent are sold. It's just a cleaner an Clorox mixed that breaks that junky build up.

SOURCE: dishwasher won't start

jamcdani Most likely the problem with your dish washer is bad key pad. It is not repairable and has to be replaced. Whirlpool does not sell it separate and you have to by the whole console assembly. The price range is between $95 and $115 (different colors) and it is not very complicated to replace it. I can help you with the complete step by step instructions and, if you provide the complete model number of your dish washer, I get the part number and the best price for you. Gendos post back...

SOURCE: Water Will not Drain

It could be cause the water level switch. The level switch is usually a diaphragm device with a small clear tube attached between the switch and the bottom of the washer's outer tub. I am not familiar with your machine, but if you will open the rear panel you will find it easily. Clear tube from any obstruction. Good luck !

SOURCE: Whirlpool dishwasher will not start

I have a quiet partner I and it is doing the same thing!
I have only had it for 3 months. It did it once before, then after about a week, I tried it again and it worked fine?
I can't find my warranty anywhere. I bought it at Lowes.
Does anyone have any kind of solution? Looks like it is a common problem.

Water won't drain out

Hello Veronica Spellman - Have you recently cleaned the filter? This can be doing by a glass trap located in the center of the filter designed to collect pieces of broken glass, straws, pits, etc. You should simply be able to grasp handle, lift out, empty and place it back. Also is the unit making a grinding noise? If so, I personally recommend consulting a professional to move forward accurately and assist with the repairs. The dishwasher could possibly have a faulty drain motor/pump.

Belt, Water Pump Although few dishwashers have a water pump belt, if the dishwasher won't drain there might be a worn or broken water pump belt. After removing the lower kick panel the motor can be seen in the front, the water pump belt is on the bottom of the motor.

Drain Pump If the dishwasher won't drain, the drain pump might be defective. Test the pump motor with an Ohm meter. Drain pumps are not repairable, if it's defective it will need to be replaced.

Drain Impeller The drain impeller is attached to the pump and pushes the water out of the dishwasher, through the drain tube and into the garbage disposer or drain line. If the dishwasher won't drain, the drain impeller might be broken or worn out. Replace both the impeller and seal at the same time.

Drain Solenoid Kit If the dishwasher won't drain, the drain solenoid kit might need to be replaced. The drain solenoid is an actuator that opens a flap to allow the water to drain.
Drain Valve The drain valve can get clogged with debris and should be cleaned out if the dishwasher won't drain. If it seems clear of debris but won't actuate, it will need to be replaced. The drain valve is not repairable Pump and Motor Assembly If the dishwasher won't drain, the pump and motor assembly might be defective. If the motor runs during the drain cycle, check for a blockage in the drain line. If the motor won't run during the drain cycle or if it just hums when it should be running, the pump and motor assembly might need to be replaced.

Clogged or Improperly Installed Garbage Disposer If the dishwasher won't drain and the garbage disposer was installed recently, the installer might have forgotten to knock out the drain plug from this disposer. All garbage disposers are sold with a solid plug in the drain tube for situations where a dishwasher isn't connected. However, if the dishwasher is connected, the plug will need to be removed. If the disposer wasn't replaced recently, remove the dishwasher drain hose from the disposer and clean out both the fitting on the disposer and the end of the drain hose. These are the most common places to find an obstruction if the dishwasher won't drain.

If the valve gets stuck closed, it will prevent the water from draining. The check valve is the device that the drain hose is attached to on the dishwasher.

Check Ball If the dishwasher won't drain the check ball might be stuck. The check ball is a small plastic ball in the check valve which prevents water from returning to the dishwasher after it has drained. Dishwasher stuck on "drain"

This is a on going problem with asko and they keep jerking everyone around with this defect. I had a repair person come over and used a turkey baster with a 7" rubber hose attached to the end of the baster. He took off the kick plate and inserted the hose end in the overflow tray and pull about of 12 onces of water from the tray. He is a asko repair facility and says it is a comon problem and has made the repair solution on his own as it is easier then taking the hole dishwaser out and tip it on the side just to drain the water. This has been on going for 3 years and each time i called asko it was like i was the only person having such a problem. I now do this every 3 months and the problem is on going. What a piece of junk. Purchased at Marcellas appliances in Schenectady,NY. They also know how to avoid the problem in fact there repair person left out most of the screws so the next time it would take less time to drain the water. DDDDDont buy ASKO. Michael Foote

the tech that came out may have pinched the drain hose when he put the dishwasher back in place. disconect drain hose from under sink. put dishwasher in cancel/drain mode see if water is coming out at a trickle if so, hose is probably pinched behind dishwasher
