Perhaps the laptop port is designed for a usb 3.0 insert instead of a usb 2.0? Also try using compressed air to clean both connections. The hub male end and the laptop female end.

I DO NOT KNOW WHERE TO PLUG IN MY WEB CAM

You plug webcams into the High Speed USB 2.0 port on the back of your computer. It is a rectangular port that looks like the attached image.11_12_2012_1_36_50_am.jpg

4 port 2.0 high speed hub for mac - defective??

No its not defective. If you use your usb modem, plug it in to a working port. It is the default or home port of the usb modem since it was installed on your system. If you use other port for it then it will not work.

External HD not recognizing USB ports as being Hi-speed ports

I have the same issue. I have 4 Simpletech Signature 250GB drives. They all worked fine at first. After about six months two of them started connecting at USB 1 speeds. It occurs on 4 different computers!!! The post about it being the computer assumes is wrong. How can it work fine for six months and then suddenly change. Also it occurs on different computers. I have submitted a tech support request with simpletech and will post the results.

Asus P4P800-X USB Problem

Maybe your USB port on your computer is model 1.0 while the hard drive is a 2.0. That would cause it not to read it. Check your system information and see what model your USB ports are.

The system comments that this is not a usb 2 device

first thing is that message just means that your device will work at a reduced speed
second is that a high speed port or enhanced usb port is required to work it at enhanced speeds
to check if your usb port is enhanced goto : control panel / system properties / hardware tab / device mannager / then scroll down to usb controllers and see if it says enhanced next to your usb port if it does then you will need to get the updated usb driver for the enhanced speed

My usb port is not 2 - I keep getting a message that states that I need to get a hi speed usb device host controller. Where can I get this? I have an ibm thinkpad r40.

On some laptops that are older (an IBM R40 is a bit older) there are no high speed usb ports but if you plug in a usb device that is USB 2.0 into a usb port that is not high speed, the operating system (Sounds like Windows XP) will display that message even though you don't have a high speed usb controller. The USB device will still work but at a slower speed. You can ignore this message without a problem

"A HI SPEED USB device plugged into a non HI SPEED USB hub" error message, any idea? every time i plug a usb in to my computer it comes up that this device can perfom faster on a hi-speed usb port

This is not an error it just means that you are plugging in a usb 2.0 device into a usb 1.0 port. The devise will still function normally just not as fast. You could always add a usb 2.0 pci card to your computer.

USB software not installing?

USB ports on laptops are not always "powered" ports they are often "Low power" Usb ports, devices like external HDDs and webcams tend to draw too high a current to work properly on these Low power ports.

A way around this is to get a small "Powered" USB hub this is a Usb hub which has it's own plug in power supply (this is essential) you plug your devices into this and the hub into the low power USB socket. this means that the power is being drawn from the Powered hub instead of your laptop's ports.

I have come across this many times, and this small inconvenience is the only way around this.

Good luck

USB Drive controller

you need to install sisoft sandra search google for a free download and find out if you have any USB2 ports on your pc as the hard drive will only transfer at the higher speed as apposed to the usb pen which can transfer at either speeds. It may also be that your usb port cannot supply enough voltage to run the hard drive, so a mains powered usb hub may be the answer.
