Question about Heating & Cooling

1 Answer

Hello, I am experiencing a problem with my wall furnace. It is a Williams branded furnace. I have replaced the thermocouple twice, and the pilot was working for a while and functioning perfectly, when a few days ago it went out. I can light the pilot but it will not stay on. Here are some details I found on the pilot: Robert Shaw 7000 MVRLC NAT 4.0 VC For millivolt system only P323011 Thank you for your time. - Erick R.

Sounds like the gas valve may be failing .... possibly a small leak in the diaphram of the gas valve...
what your describing i to would start with the thermocoupler and usually that would correct the problem, but if you have done that and it still is shutting off and you are not getting any drafts that would cause the pilot to go out .then i would say the gas valve is your problem and it is intermetent failing....

The pilot goes out when the heater cycles

The thermocouple is not working correctly. sometimes you can clean the soot build up from it and it will work again. sometimes they just need replacing. the thermocouple is what the pilot light flame heats up when you turn on the heater. when the thermocouple gets hot it sends a 20 to 60 millivolt signal to the gas valve to activate the gas flow to the main burner.

Hi,
The thermocouple is bad and needs to be replaced...
The thermocouple is the copper rod that sticks up into the pilot flame and then screws into the gas valve...
they are sold by lentgh so you need to measure the old one when you go to buy a replacement...

Pilot Light won't stay lit on wall furance

The low voltage wiring and the thermostat has noting to do with the pilot function of the wall furnace, check to see if when you have the pilot lit manually, while holding the button in does the flame impinge on the thermocouple and does the flame try to wrap around the thermocouple? if not the thermocouple and pilot flame need to be adjusted so that it impinges on the TC, if it does have a good flame impingment, then you probably have a bad TC from the factory, call them and have them send you a new one if still under warrenty.
