You have to get the remote and transceiver to talk to each other. Remove all the batteries and wait a couple of minutes
before replaceing them. Place the transceiver in the REMOTE
position, press and hold down the LEARN button, and then
press the MODE button on the remote control. A change in the
beep tone will be heard and you have MARRIED the two devices. Should solve the problem.

Rhonda, if you have the On/Off/Flame Height Remote Control ... from what you have described (it's working in reverse) someone has wired it backwards to the control valve. With this particular remote, there is a positive and a negative. Reverse the wires that are connected to the gas control valve (at the control valve.
