What do you need to know about configuring routers?
All basic router configuration are almost the same. You can access the router by a specific address. In this case, for NETGEAR router, the default address is 192.168.1.1.

You can access the router configuration page by typing 192.168.1.1 on the address bar of any browsers.
It will then ask for the User name and Password. The
Default UserName is : admin
Default Password : password

Most of the people just want to configure their wireless network and what is the wireless key.
You can check the wireless setting of the router. You will then see the wireless network name or the SSID. You can definitely change that to the wireless network key that you wish to use.
You can also change the wireless key which is your wireless security. There are several types of wireless security. We have WEP, WPA-PSK, WPA-PSK2.

Usually, WEP and WPA wireless encryption are used. For WEP, you can use 10 digits numbers from 0-9 and for WPA-PSK, you can use alpha numeric characters.

It's up to you what to use. You can easily change the wireless key by entering it on the Key1 under the Security Encryption. Just hit apply and you can now use the new wireless network name and key that you just setup..

One tip of advise, don't be afraid to change the settings of the router. Just remember the current settings if you are not that familiar before changing anything. If that doesn't work, just revert the changes. I'm sure, you'll get comfortable on configuring any router in a short time..

In Vista, you can either go to control panel, device manager and right click on it and click "eneble"
or go to control panel > network sharing and set up wireless network connection
or
go to task manager (press and hold ctrl . alt . delete for a couple of seconds), until task manager comes up. Then click on the services tab, scroll down till you see "Plug Play or Plug and Play and make sure it's running. If it's not, right click on it then click "enable"

In XP
Open Network Connections
Right-click Wireless Network Connection, and then click Properties.
On the Wireless Networks tab, do one of the following: •
To enable automatic wireless network configuration, select the Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings check box. This check box is selected by default. For information about what happens when you enable automatic wireless network configuration, see Notes.
To disable automatic wireless network configuration, clear the Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings check box.
To connect to an existing wireless network, do one of the following:
Access point (infrastructure)
To connect to an existing access point (infrastructure) network, under Available networks, click the network name, and then click Configure.

Solution Overview
This article explains how you can avoid having to run the Wireless Configuration Utility or Wireless Setup Assistant (Macintosh) after making changes to the router's security settings. The need to change these settings can arise if users forget their network key/passphrase or router web server password or if you have security concerns.
Printer response to security settings changes
The printer will respond with a flashing orange (pattlnk_6172008_1844-orgblksml.gif) Wi-Fi indicator light after the following actions are performed on the network or router/access point (AP):

  • -A change to the Service Set Identifier (SSID) or network name.

  • -A change to the security type (none, WEP, WPA, or WPA2 personal).

  • -A change to the security network key/passphrase.

  • -A hard reset of the router followed by entry of security values that are different from the original values.

  • -The printer is moved to a network (AP) that has different security values but already has installed drivers and created ports. NOTE: Port reconfiguration may be required in this case. Click here for instructions.

In order to rejoin (associate and authenticate) the wireless network (WLAN), the wireless client (printer) has to be reconfigured with the router's new SSID, security type, and network key. This requires connecting the USB configuration cable to the host computer and running the Wireless Configuration Utility or Wireless Setup Assistant to apply the new security settings on the printer's wireless network adapter.
Solution: Change the printer settings first
Change the security settings on the printer while it is still communicating on the network before making the changes on the router. Understand that this will cause a temporary change in the Wi-Fi indicator light from pattlnk_6172008_1952-tn_grnsolproof.jpg to pattlnk_6172008_1844-orgblksml.gif. After you have made equivalent changes on the router, the printer's Wi-Fi indicator light will return to pattlnk_6172008_1952-tn_grnsolproof.jpg.
Procedure: How to change security settings via the embedded web server
If you change your AP security settings frequently, this procedure is for you.

  1. Open your web browser application and enter the printer IP address into the web address field, i.e. http://ip_address.

  2. Click on Configuration.

  3. Click on Wireless.

  4. Enter the SSID, security type/encryption, and network key that will be used to configure the router.

  5. Click Submit.

Try entering the IP address in the web browser and configure there. The firmware will have to flashed if this doesn't work.

Kyocera is pretty picky about resets. You might have to phone them.

GETTING STARTED How to Physically Connect the D-Link
1. Plug an Ethernet cable into the DSL modem. Plug the other end of the cable into the "WAN" port on the D-Link.
2. Using an Ethernet cable, plug any wired computers into any of the 4 Ethernet ports on the D-Link.
How to Access the D-Link Configuration Screen
The D-Link is configured using a Web browser. After you have connected your computer to the D-Link router, follow these steps:
1. Launch your Web browser. Enter "http://192.168.0.1" into the address bar and press the "Enter" or "Return" key.
2. A logon pop-up screen will appear. Type "admin" for the username and leave the password field blank.
3. Click "OK". A D-Link configuration screen will appear. All changes to the D-Link configuration are made here.

GENERAL SECURITY MEASURES
Change the Admin password
Leaving the password blank is not a good idea. It should be changed to something more secure. To change the password, go to the D-Link configuration screen and:
1. Click the "Tools" tab.
2. Click the "Admin" button.
3. Under the "Administrator" heading, enter the new password, and a second time to confirm.
4. Click "Apply".
5. The next time you access the D-Link configuration screen, you will need to enter the new Admin password.
Disable the Wireless LAN
If wireless access is not necessary, you should disable the wireless part of the D-Link. This will prevent anyone from accessing the network wirelessly. (If you are using the wireless features, please skip down to "Wireless Security Measures".) From the D-Link configuration screen:
1. Click the "Home" tab.
2. Click the "Wireless" button.
3. Click the "Disabled" button next to "Wireless Radio".
4. Click "Apply".
5. You are done securing your wired network. No further action is required.

WIRELESS SECURITY MEASURES
Enable WEP
Enabling WEP* (Wired Equivalent Privacy) will require anyone wishing to access the Internet through your wireless network to enter a password. After the correct password is entered, a connection is established, and all data sent from the D-Link to the computer and back is encrypted. From the D-Link configuration screen:
1. Click the "Home" tab.
2. Click the "Wireless" button.
3. Click the "Open System" button next to "Authentication".
4. Set the "WEP Encryption" to "128 bit".
5. Set the "Key Type" to "ASCII".
6. Type a 13 digit password into "Key 1".
7. Click "Apply".
8. When you connect to your wireless network from a computer, you will need to enter the 13 digit password.
*Note: If your computer's operating system supports it, enabling WPA-PSK is more secure than WEP. The steps above can be modified to set up WPA-PSK.
Change the SSID
By default, the D-Link is set to advertise the existence of your wireless network to computers. It does this by broadcasting an SSID (Service Set Identifier), also called a "network name" because it identifies your wireless network. Changing the SSID makes it easier for you to distinguish your network from surrounding networks. From the D-Link configuration screen:
1. Click the "Home" tab.
2. Click the "Wireless" button.
3. Change the "SSID" from "default" to an SSID of your choice.
4. Click "Apply".

Macintoshes and the RP614 Router Gateway


You need a Macintosh computer running MacOS 8.6, 9.x, or 10.x. (Netgear products are not supported for versions of MacOS before 8.6.) You can use the RP614 with an eMac, iBook, iMac, PowerBook, PowerMac, or PowerPC as long as they are running one of these versions of MacOS. You also need a few Ethernet cables to make the connections between the router to your modem for internet connection and from the router to your computers or peripherals. Topic 2. How do I prevent my Network configuration from being lost when I restart my computer? When making configuration changes for MacOS it is best to use Configurations (MacOS 8.x or 9. x) or Network Location (MacOS 10. x) settings instead of just changing settings for each category (TCP/IP, AppleTalk, AirPort, etc.). If you just make changes to your settings, they may be lost when you restart your computer unless you have saved them in a Configuration or Network Location. To create a Configuration in MacOS 8.x or 9.x: 1. Open AppleTalk (or TCP/IP) from the Apple Menu in the upper left-hand corner of the screen. 2. From the pull-down File menu select the Configurations option. 3. Choose New Configuration. 4. Type in a name for your new configuration (Netgear Router). 5. Make your changes to the AppleTalk (or TCP/IP) settings. 6. When you close AppleTalk (or TCP/IP) choose Save Changes. Whenever you make Configuration changes for settings in MacOS 8.x or 9.x, open Configurations from the File menu or by pressing Command-K.
