Question about HP OfficeJet 7310 All-In-One InkJet Printer

Need help in troubleshooting scanner problems for HP 7310xi. My scanner doesn't work at all. When I hit the 'scan to' button, the display reads "You need to install or run HP software for this feature".

Take the program completely out and restart computer. Install it again and install completely with out leaving any software programs out. You do have cd? If not go to hp.com and click on support for drivers and download them again. Make sure you have correct operating system checked. 32 bit is different than 64 bit....xp/vista..etc

Please install and run the below mentioned software to automatically diagnose and fix scanning issue:
HP Scan Diagnostic Utility
After installing this utility,
  1. Press the Power button to turn on the product, if it is not already on.
  2. From the Scanner column in the Scan Diagnostic Utility, select your HP product.
  3. Click Diagnose . The Scan Diagnostic Utility diagnoses various scanning problems, and then displays a list of results. The results display either when the tool detects an error, or when the tool completes the diagnosis and there are no errors.
    If this utility doesn't solve your issue, please revert back.

Prints but cannot scan


Check first if you can try to make a copy as standalone (without the help of the computer)

If that works it means scan feature is working fine and printer is not the issue.
then you might look to troubleshoot issues with software side

try making scan from MS Paint
click File then click from scanner or camera

if that works then the driver is not the problem but it could be HP software

Do not hit the SCAN button. Instead, use the HP software, and click the "Align" button.
Follow the on-screen instructions (print the page, put the page into the scanner) very carefully.

I have a HP officejet 7310xi all-in-one will NOT FAX


there could be multiple issues.first u need to chk wheter the phonle line is conencted to the line 2 port at the back the printer.next u need to chk whether ur phone line is working properly.try conncting the phone line to a handset and see whether u r getting the dial tone.If all this does not work contact the free online technical support at techbuddies .com

Does it scan from either the doc feeder or from the flatbed itself?
Can you COPY a page?

Are you using the buttons on the printer, or do you work from HP director?

Dear WPEARL ,
you have to re-install the driver for your Officejet.Its A driver's problem . maybe your Scanner driver's file is wanished or crroupt.

No Scan Options Error Message

Pressing of scan button feature is no longer supported by hp drivers, if installed correctly one scans using scanners and fax


When the scan button is pressed on the printer, nothing happens. The scan button does not work correctly. Solution Scan documents using Windows Fax and Scanning or Paint. Scanning with Windows Fax and Scanning
  1. Click the Start (c00845897.gif ) icon.
  2. Click All Programs .
  3. Click Windows Fax and Scanning .
  4. Click New Scan .
  5. Click File and then click Scan .
Scanning with Paint
  1. Click Windows .
  2. Click All Programs .
  3. Click Accessories .
  4. Click Paint .
  5. Click File and then click From Scanner or Camera .
  6. Click Scan .
Cause The drivers in the Windows Vista operating system do not support button press functionality on the printer. link to above info from HP
