SOURCE: need to disasseble my subx2 boombox to replace the

After dissassembling my subxr2, I have come to the conclusion that the issue with my antenna not being detected is in the female contact of the antenna's plug, not with the connector in the box (as I expected to find). I have not yet verified this by trying a new antenna. Here is how to dissassemble the box in any case.

Very carefully, with a small very flat screwdriver, remove the front grille of the unit. There are 8 additional screws set in deep holes that need to be removed. Once done, the front panel will pop right off.

The inside of the case is a mess of wires. You do not need to disconnect them if you do not want to.

Pry the grill off the bottom of the box. Remove the 4 screws that hold in the speaker. This will allow you to move the speaker that is in the main body out of the way.

The antenna jack is _not_ a part of the circuit board. If you look into the box, you will see a rectangular cut-out in the edge of the circuit board. There is a wire with a silver connector that is held in place by 2 screws. Remove those screws and you are now holding the antenna jack.

My sirius kt-sr3000 also works fine in car dock, but when inserted into it's plug+play boom box, boom it displays "antenna not detected"

Try swapping the boombox antenna with the car dock to see if you get the same problem. If yo do, you know the boombox is bad. Otherwise, its the antenna and you just need to get a replacement.

My sirius radio sportster works sometimes and others doesn't

Buy radio shack electronic contact cleaner (in a can) and spray a small amount on the male connector from the antenna wire, and spray a small amount on the male connector in the base of the Sportster that the sportster interfaces with. Place the antenna connector onto the base unit and remove it several times and swirl it while connected. Place the sportster into and remove it from the base several times. This usually will fix the issue. Sat signals are extremely sensitive to the slightest oxidation or dirt or whaterver on that tiny antenna connection point.

Sirius Sportster SP-B1 Boombox

Your best best is to replace the units. Sirius usually does it for free for existing customers. You can a good discount on a new boombox as well. The new models are designed to work with more Sirus receivers on the market.

Sirius sportster and dock

If you bought it within a year, it should be under OEM warranty. If it has been longer than a year, but shorter than two years, and you bought it with Visa, MC, or American Express, you probably qualify for extended warranty protection from your credit card company.

Sirius sportster sp-tk1, always displays "acquiring signal"

Sirius does not stand behind their products, There is no out of warranty repair for their radios,  and they do not offer sites for repair. Seems  like this is a definite problem with this model. Their solution is to buy a new radio,(with all the new-docking,boombox etc) accessories. also they charge $75.00 to change to the new radio.I liked my sportster 1 because of the FM modulator. It just had to be centrally located and all the radios in my home picked it up(no docking) the new radios require $50.00 docking stations for each stereo location and radio location, unless you bring a boombox everywhere, and the sound isn't the same.    I feel there should be a class action lawsuit against Sirius for these reasons and I might look into it. What do all you think?
