Mack says check to see if you have a blockage between the discharging flue pipes and chimney stack.Maybe this unit accumulated rust/soot/or settlement restricting the full flow of carbon/air,ect. from the unit itself.

Same problem. Replaced the thermocoupler and the pilot light still goes out. I've done research and a lot of people are having the same issue with the brand/ model. Haven't been able to find a solution.

Thats what it sounds like to me you have a bad far as being under warranty alot of the components usually have bear minumum warranty the tank itself will still be under warranty based on your info... the thermocoupler are inexpensive and fairly easy to change most home depot or lowes building centers carry these in the water heater department....good luck

Rust in water, ao smith promax

It may be what is called iron bacteria it will sometime grow in a water heater. It is present in some water and will actually thrive in water temps up to 120 degrees.if this is the case one solution is to increase the water tempurature of the heater to 130 -140 degrees this will kill the bacteria that is causing the rust problem. You Must install a tempering or mixing valve which will add cold water to temper or cool the water back to 120.
hope this helps.

AO Smith Water heater FPSH50-260 keeps blowing fuses

FPSH series is a power vented residential gas water heater.

1) The blower is plugged into 120Volt outlet. If blower has short, then it will trip breaker.
Blower could be Fasco model 7021-10195, or 7021-10770. Call AO Smith: 1-800-527-1953. They will need model number and serial number located on label on side of tank.

2) Before calling AO Smith, check outlet with circuit analyzer. Outlet must have correct polarity and must be grounded. Unplug cord to water heater and run continuity test from ground prong on electrical plug to manifold tube on gas valve.

3) Also if a fluorescent light fixture is on the same breaker, that can cause burner to short cycle.

4) Connect water heater to different outlet and see if problem continues.

5) AO SmIth has service manuals for the FPSH series that download to your computer:

I have smoth's hot water tank. problem is pilot lite is off. how do u turn it on?

You have tank-type gas water heater with standing pilot light.

Instructions for lighting pilot light are usually on front of water heater.
Since water heaters vary widely, if you want specific information without guessing, then add a comment with model number that appears on label on side of tank, and also describe the gas control valve on front of unit.
This information will let expert located manual and look up specific information plus troubleshoot steps for that model.

Gvr 40 100 will not stay lite

The Cold air screen on the bottom of the water heater is partially plugged. That is if the pilot light can be lit and stay on, but goes out when the heater should be functioning normally. This is not the removable plastic screen but a round white-yellow grid with 1/32" holes. You can try to clean it through the bottom but you may have to remove the gas line from the controller to the burner, pilot gas line, and thermocouple connection to remove that complete assembly to get access to the screen. The AO Smith booklet warns of this but they pretend the plastic screen will keep this second screen clean but it won't. After three years it was two thirds plugged.
