Question about Whirlpool WTW5300SQ Top Load Washer

Open Question

I have a Whirlpool WTW 5300 VW2 washing machine. When it fills warm or hot water, the water pulses. We replaced the solenoid valve and it remains the same. The sound is annoying. Any ideas?

Dont want to endorse a commercial site, but you can by a generic part for a bit over $10 for this problem, so do some seraching for a reasonable site (other sites are charging 40-50 dollars for a fill valve.

Hi everyone - I ended up calling a repairman. It was small part that needed to be replaced. It cost me $65 for the visit, $20 for labor and $20 for parts. The repairman told me it would probably be good for another 5 years.

Good day,
The only test on the water valve itself, is to replace it. The term is
"replace with a know good part", but may or may not work.
It is very possible you mght need a plumber to install a riser on the hot water line somewhere betwen the tank and the line going into the washer. The riser creates an air cushion in the line that is used on many issues much as you described.
It could well be best to call a few quality plumbing companies, to see if they have dealt with that issue.

Hi Charlie in Philly,

Yes it is normal to answer your question in short. However, since it may not be how your old machine operated or something you are not accustomed to, I'll explain in brief.

Most automatic washer made today have a "thermistor" built into the fill valve, or in series with the fill line from the valve. As a result you may notice either the cold or hot pulsing on and off, and this is done as the thermistor senses the water temperature to attain the desired water for the selected cycle. It also makes the washer more energy efficient and more well balanced from a functional stand point, i.e. it will only call for the desired amount of hot water as opposed to the older washer's which would simply fill at the rate at which the home water supply could provide, whether hot/warm or cold selected.

Hope this answer's your question and enlighten's you to the "why" as well.

Warm water question

there seems to be something malfunctioning within the water inlet valve assembly. check the wires leading from the control board to the water valve assembly. make sure the connections are tight and fitting well. also, do a break point test on the control board. this will tell you if the control board is sending crossed signals to the water valves.

Whirlpool Clothes Washer Model LSR7233DWO Cold Water Fill

It is a common problem. The water inlet valve (the item your fill hoses attach to) has a problem. first thing I would do is remove the hoses and check the screens inside the walve itself. If blocked, clean them. IF they are OKAY....WHile the hose if off place it in the washer tub and turn it on full blast. Does it flow with force? If so, you will need to replace the water inlet valve. While on cold....it trickles and turning it to warm, the machine sends power to both the hot and cold water solenoids and then you are forceful. Mostly hot and a trickle of cold.....Get the point? If I can help further...

You either have a defective pressure switch or water inlet valve. Start to fill the machine with warm water so that both solenoids on the water inlet valve (hot and cold) are activated. After about 30-60 seconds, push the timer knob in to stop water flow. If the water continues to flow, replace the water inlet valve. If this is the case, it may take a few times of starting and stopping water flow to allow solenoid to heat up and become symptomatic. If water flow stops abruptly each time knob is pushed in, you most likely have a defective pressure switch (water level switch).

Amana washer has no hot water - cold works fine

There is a solenoid control valve on all washing machines, located where the water hoses enter the machine. If you have a rubber mallet, you can whack the machine gently with the mallet. If the problem is resolved, it was just a stuck valve. If not, then you likely will need to replace the whole solenoid valve control. Typically there are controls for each water supply.
