Acer DVD problem

I have an Acer 10x dvd 1040A. Problem: I have used my 5 region changes. Solution: I downloaded the firmware patch (version 1.10) from 7th Zone (supposed to be same as pioneer 10x drive) to reset the drive but it didn't work and now my drive is stuck on region 1. This is fine for watching american beauty or chicken run however not so good for my region 4 gladiator. Anyone have any ideas on how to correct this problem ? From what I've read the drive cannot be made RPC-1 region free, it can only be reset to give you 5 more region changes everytime. Hope someone can help Swoop.... I have an old Acer Extensa 2303, and as we travel a fair bit between Canada and NZ, we changed our Region a couple of times, but we tried to change back to Region 4 for NZ prior to the last allowed change, but it wouldn't let us. We now need a crack to reset or go Region free. OB.Angels@live .com

Ok, try this...
find your model (i think its in section Acer/Benq) and download the hacked firmware (region free).

Now that your drive has had its region-checking facility disabled you also need to remove the checking that is built into Windows and the DVD-playback software. The easiest way to do this is with Dvd region killer or better find AnyDVD. Download it and install it on your computer.

My dvd is blocked by zoning. It doesn't play dvd any longer. It alowes to change zoning/ region only 5 times and then it lockes. What do I do?

You need to reflash the firmware in the DVD, this will reset the counter. There could also be cracked versions of the DVD firmware which will reset the counter every time you power off or even make it region free. This will invalidate your warrenty.

To find out more, search for the make of the drive followed by firmware flash region free

How do I unlock the dvd zoning on an acer laptop?

There are many expensive software apps that work on your PC like and both cost about $40 (£30) so use them if you wish they will not permanently change your drive region just fake it !

The surefire way is to search for a region free firmware for the DVD-ROM drive. You will need to be careful and backup the original and ue the recommended firmware flasher with the AC power connected. To check that it has worked use DVD Region free.

An easy way to do this is use VSO inspector and then use the check firmware update button at the bottom to search also take a note of the firmware version, this will not only search for a zone locked update but will also find a few sites with firmware region free hacks.

I have many NEC drives like the NEC ND-3500A the best place to look is here

Use the Binflash GUI for Windows 32bit (x86)

There are many other cool sites for other makes of drives let me know If I can help futher.

Computer can only be changed regins 4 times before it locks

DVD drives on new PCs allow the user to change region just five times before insisting on “locking” to a chosen region. Fortunately, with the right knowledge and specialist software, it’s possible to break the lock. Again, this process is quite legal,

*Tech NOTE*
doing so may void your warranties.

Getting the Information you need

The first thing to do is find the exact model and firmware version of your DVD drive. Device Manager in Windows may not give you enough information, so an extra piece of software is required. DISC info will give you all the information needed about a drive.

Download it HERE

and extract the files from the compressed ZIP folder. Launch the DISC Info application and WRITE DOWN THE DISPLAYED INFO on your drive …

This will be needed for the next step.

Now that you know the version of the firmware software in your drive you need to find out what modifications are needed to remove the region protection. A good place to start is The Firmware Page at There are listings for all kinds of DVD drive. Click on the Download firmware link on the left-hand side of the page and find the listing for your drive model number as reported in DISC Info you noted down in the first step.

Take this opportunity first

Before looking for patched firmware for your drive, check to see if there are any updates available from the manufacturer. The links from The Firmware Page should take you to the manufacturer’s update page. Now, back at The Firmware Page website, use the Download Search link to locate the required firmware-flashing software for your drive. In this instance my Liteon LTC-48161H drive required a utility called LtnRPC, which I duly downloaded.

Now let’s do it

Install the appropriate firmware-flashing software on your computer … in my case it was called CO48KH0R.EXE (XFlash), this is the latest firmware upgrade for my Liteon. Double-click on the icon to launch it. You should read any help file that came with the firmware-flashing utility, if there is one, in my case there was not, it wasn’t difficult. When it has finished, restart your computer as requested.

Now that your drive has had its region-checking facility disabled you also need to remove the checking that is built into Windows and the DVD-playback software. The easiest way to do this is with DVD Region Killer. Download it and install it on your computer.

If Windows disputes the number of changes you can reset it by clicking on the Windows tab and using the Erase command to remove the region settings from the Registry. Always make a backup of the Registry before making any changes to it. You can do this using Advanced mode in Windows Backup utility, which you’ll find under the System Tools submenu from the Start menu.

I need to change the region from 1 to 4

You have to go to the device manager of the operating system. List the hardware. Right click on the actual dvd drive and select the area that you want to change the region to. It will display the region.

How can i reset my cd/dvd region in my acer aspire 4715z series, i plan to do this my cd/dvd rom is choosing a disc to play, i think some change the cd/dvd rom without my knowledge and I'm not able to fix...

To change the region code on your DVD player go to Control Panel - System - Hardware - Device Manager and expand the DVD/CD ROM drives, then right click on your DVD drive and click on Properties then click on DVD Region tab. You will see the number of changes remaining (you can only change the region code 4 times and then it locks on the last region change and no further change is available). You will see the Current Region and You can change the region in the New Region box.
If you have run out of changes then you have a problem, this can be fixed. The hardest way is to upgrade the firmware on the DVD drive to a region free firmware BUT if you install the wrong firmware or stuff up the upgrade your DVD drive will be a piece of junk.
The best way is to install a piece of software that defeats the region code. There may be some free software on the Internet but I use DVD Region Free + CSS Free from DVD Idle, it not expensive and I have no problem viewing DVDs from any region.
Use this link to DVD Idle WEB site.

You can only change the region code 4 times and then it locks onto that region. There are firmware upgrades for various model DVDs on the Internet that makes the DVD drive region free, but if you make a mistake in upgrading the firmware or installing the wrong firmware version then the DVD drive is turned into a piece of junk.
The best way to solve your problem is to install software that defeats the region code so you can play DVDs from any region.
I use a region free program fronm DVD Idle, it is not very expensive and there are other similar programs on the Internet. Use Google to search for them.

DVD Region Locked to Region 3

Hi there.
You only get 5 turns to change the region code on a slimline DVD/RW, once its locked to a region thats it, the only way to get them five goes back again is to flash the firmware on the DVD/RW.
You will need to jot down the make and model of the slimline DVD and see if there is a firmware update for it.
NOTE: Flashing firmware with the wrong version can damage the DVD and render it useless.

Good luck and thanks for using FixYa!!
