You need a new battery HP have inbuilt protectors so that the computer wont get damaged so if it is telling you to replace the battery you should do it. Try and get it under warrenty If not just go into a computer store and ask for one that is compatable with it because if your warrenty is already void then you can put any battery in it.

How would I now if the battery is bad

Hello rrodri4330,

Welcome, and thank you for using FixYa!

To answer your question: The laptop itself will tell you that the battery is bad.

In any version of Windows, when you look down near your clock, you should see the Charging Icon engage and display; once the power adapter is plugged in. While this icon is displayed, you should see the percentage number rise, as the battery charges. If the battery remains at a low percentage, and never rises, then the battery is bad. That will be proof of your need to replace it.

I included a link below, from eBay!, to where to can purchase a replacement, cheap.

I have to agree with them if you tested everything else. It could most likely be a mother board issue. It would benefit you to purchase another computer and not try to replace the mother board if its NOT under warranty. That MB will be expensive.

I bought a replacement battery for my hp pavillion 6775us, and charged it and discharged it then charged to full and the battery check said i needed to replace it. it wasn't an HP original equipment...

Hello,

First of all, disconnect your battery from back of the

laptop, then try and get a friend or a technician that

uses the same type of laptop, and try to swap the

battery just to check whether it works and charges

it properly. Also do the same thing with the

Adapter/Charger and charge it with it.

This is because, there are two diagnostic possibilities

here:

1.) It is either the battery that you bought is not good

and you need to return it quickly before its too late

or;

2.) The charger that you are using is bad, or not

supplying enough current to charge the battery

cells...and this might even damage the battery after

a while, or make the battery not to charge to its full

capacity and as well discharge quickly.

Try this out and let me know how it goes.

Hope this helps you out.

Goodluck and thanks for using fixya.

Kindly Let me know how it goes.

Hope this helps.

Goodluck!
