If the compressor is on a long time then prolly one of two thing,

1. its no longer good

2. the radiator is dirty.

theres also a fan, make sure is moving and dust free.

but im sure freon is mostly depleted, as you might have a small leak.

you could have the freon replaced and maybe have it checked for leaks.

also if the compressor is extremely hot, it might be time to replace it. off to the shop.

you are looking at 300 or more bucks, price tag most likely

My Amana 26 cu ft side by side quit cooling entirely in the freezer and the refrigerator. Is it worth it to get a repairman or should we just get a new frig. This one is 6 years old

I suggest get help with repairman.6 year old is not very old.Refrigerators have life more then 8 to 10 years. The problem can be temperature not set properly or any of fridge or freezer door not closed properly and cool air is getting leaked out. These are basic possibilities which first need to be checked. But if these possibilities are checked ok and still the problem is same, then its weak compressor issue. I have cleaned the coils this morning, but the refrigerator section does not appear to cool. The freezer seems fine. This is model eti18PKXGWI ser no. 042 9086 eemingly c. 10 years old.

Your freezer fan has probably quit. On most refrigerators the freezer is the only compartment actually cooled by the compressor and coils. The refrigerator compartment is feed cold air from the freezer compartment by way of a small fan. If you have you refrigerator turned all the way up and the door open you should here the fan running and be able to feel air moving somewere in the refrigerator compartment.

My freezer not getting cold. it is about 10 yrs old and after Hurricane Ike it stop freezing.

if the fan run and does not freeze, possible compressor or compressor start kit. Start kits that a beating in stormy weather. Start kits consist of a relay, capicator and overload sensor. These 3 parts can be ordered seperately or a generic start kit with all the of these made in one. if the compressor is bad on a 10 year old freezer you might want to look at a new freezer

I have a 10 year old Kenmore top freezer that clunks when it shut

its the compressor,
i would not spend a dime on it,
a compressor is around 200 to put it in could cost up to 200 more, then its a long shot with who will be doing the work
10 years is the avergae age of this unit so count your self lucky
and invest in a replacement
the old one may
last a year, but it will go
your loosing the center seal
sorry its not beeter news

Compressor bad on my freezer. can this be fixed

The compressor can be replaced but it's often not worth doing. If it's under a year old it should be fully covered under warranty. If it's under 10 years old, the parts may be covered under warranty. In that case the labour is probably worth paying for. If you have your manual check in there for your warranty information. Good luck!

Kenmore top freezer fridge does not cool but freezer works

Turned refrigerator off for 8 hours, let the frost melt and the fan in the freezer worked again. The compressor now only has a soft clunk when it goes off.

Frigidaire humming freezer not cold enough

For the 25 year old freezer: a replacement compressor of the same BTU rating can be obtained and used as a replacement BUT at 25 years old I DO Not recommend the expense of a compressor replacement.

To the owner of the six year old freezer. The buzzing noise is more than likely the compressor cycling on its overload protector. This is an indication that the compressor has failed. In this case also I do not recommend replacing the compressor. If it was in warranty the manufacturer would bear the cost. Replacement compressor come with a one year warranty.
