Question about Dell Inspiron 1525 (dndppa1_3) Intel Core 2 Duo T5550 (1.83GHz/667Mhz FSB/2MB cache) 120GB/3000MB PC Notebook

1 Answer

Touchpad is not working correctly. It is touchy. Seems to be not working correctly in the middle of the touchpad. If I use the top or bottom it works fair. When I use it, it is difficult to control the pointer. It does not move, or is very difficult to move the pointer.

Sounds like wear on the contacts, if you can try applying a little pressure to the centre of the pad, and it works better, this is the issue. As a first resort, you could try and download the touchpad driver and re-install it, howver, this is a common fault with the touchpad. You may need to have it replaced or possibly cleaned

Internal tochpad wont work

You probably have the touchpad turned off. Some models will have a button at the top of the touchpad in the middle that toggles it on or off.

Some models you can tap twice in the upper left hand corner of the touchpad to toggle it on or off.

I've seen some models where the touchpad is toggled by keystrokes. You had to Press and Hold the ALT or FN function key then hit the key that toggles the touchpad. The correct key to hit had the icon of a finger pointing at a touchpad.

Click Start/Control Panel and check the Mouse or touchpad drivers to make sure the settings are ok. I would just set everything back to Default.

Maybe you need to reinstall the touchpad drivers if any of the above does not solve it.

Maybe you have the touchpad locked. On some models if you look at the top of the touchpad in the middle there will be a button that you press to toggle the touchpad on or off.

Some models you tap twice in the left hand corner at the top of the touch pad to toggle the touchpad on or off.

Also on some models you toggle the touchpad on or off by keystrokes. You will have to Press and Hold the ALT key or FN key then hit the key at the top of the keyboard that toggles the touchpad. Most times the correct key to hit will have the icon of a finger inside or pointing at a square that represents the touchpad.
