Question about HP Office Equipment & Supplies

1 Answer

I have a hp psc 2710. It doesn't print in a straight line. I opened it up and I can see there's lots of gooey, sticky ink all around the cartridge contact points on the unit. There's too much to clean out by hand using q-tips over and over again. Is there a way to disassemble the unit enough to get the assembly out and clean it that way?

Go to radio shack and purchase electronic spray cleaner approx 11.00 a can and will go a long way.. spray a little in and around the contacts electronic spray is safe on electrnoics will not screw up the parts .. the ink may so try not to spread it around.. and soak up the remaining goo with a soft cotton cloth not terry towel or anything that will leave particles. try to remove as much of the excess junk from around the contacts . it appears that the pump is on the way out and this can be caused by purchasing sub generic brands of ink cartridges which leak out excessive ink or defective name brand cartridges.
i learned the hard way that buying cheaper does not save money as the quality is not as good .. but some name brands are defective sometimes and will cause the same issue. as far as dis assembly i would avoid this unless you are mechanicly skilled.... is it under warranty of any sort? like they have them anymore..lol but working for two name companies i learned that Dell and Hp are notorious for poor quality when it comes to printers..may be switch brands when time to replace..

The problem is not with the ink-cartridges. You've proved that, by swapping BLACK cartridges.

The problem is that the ink-jets that spray the BLACK ink onto the paper are clogged.
Thus, no BLACK ink reaches the paper.

Open the HP Printing Assistant, and open Utilities, and run a few "print-head-cleaning" cycles, to try to unclog the print-head.

Do not attempt to push the cartridge straight into the slot. It must slide in at a slight angle.

I have a brand new HP PSC 1410 and after having to buy a black ink cartridge my printer still doesn't print in colour. The printer came with a preinstalled colour cartridge.

The product software print setting is probably designated as grayscale. Follow these steps to check this setting:
  1. In the software application you are trying to print from, click File , and then click Print . The Print dialog box opens.
  2. Make sure your printer is selected, then click Preferences . The printer Preferences dialog box opens.
  3. Select the Color tab, then make sure that the Print in grayscale option is not selected.
Step 2: Check ink levels
NOTE: If you have installed a refilled or remanufactured print cartridge, or a cartridge that has been used in another printer, the ink level indicator will be inaccurate or unavailable.
  • Open the Printer Toolbox . There are two ways to open it:
    • Open HP Solution Center , select the Settings menu, then the Print Settings submenu, and finally the Printer Toolbox .
    • If the HP Solution Center method does not work, open Printers and Faxes in the Windows Control Panel , then right-click your printer icon and click Properties . Click Printing Preferences . Click the Services tab, then the Service This Device icon.
  • The Printer Toolbox opens. Click the Estimated Ink Level tab. A cartridge might be running out of ink even if the graphic shows ink remaining (see the note at the start of this section). Lines or streaks always appear in printouts when the cartridges begin to run out of ink. Replace print cartridges that are out of ink or low on ink.

Try opening the printer properties and cleaning the print heads (should probably be done each time a cartridge is changed), it uses some ink up but should clean the build up from running the previous cartridge dry and hopefully solve your printing problem.

    Good luck.
