Could be 1 of 2 problems ...there is a defrost terminator located on the coil itself that when the timer gets to the stage it checks for temperature and if cold enough it will go into defrost cycle. this could be bad.... 2nd it could actually be the defrost timer ...if this unit is 2001 or newer most likely has a pd board that works the defrost cycle and compressor operation...the board itself is bad and needs to be replaced... some models still have the old style defrost timer with gears in them either located on bottom of unit in front or inside the fresh food refrigerator compartment up top near the lighting assembly.....hope this helps fairly easy to repair....

What exactly is a pd board? I'm trying to lookup the part.

In-door water dispenser not working. tried lowering temp in frig to thaw line. Worked, but now line seems frozen again. ice in icemaker holder seems to be thawing and freezer is accumulating frost/frozen...

Defrost the freezer completely. Make sure the doors are sealed completely when shut. After defrosting plug back in and make sure the fan and the self defroster is functioning (your owner's manual should tell you how to reset the defrost timer). the problem may lay within the defrost system, and/or door seals and/or interior circulating fan.

Frigidaire upright freezer Model #FFU17C3AW1 Not keeping cold

Yes that is the correct part number.
If a new cold control does not correct the problem. Replace the compressor start relay.

Maytag MZD2766GE side by side, fridge not getting cold.

Your timer for the automatic defrost is defective. Replace it. If you thawed out the back of the freezer, this could be good for 3-7 days and it will freeze up again. I had the same trouble.
