To do the sensor cleaning and or the optical cleaning on that camera, it should only be done by a professional service center. Avoid blowing air into the lens as that not only doesn't clean the sensor (common misconception), it can actually do damage to the ccd. If you need to have it serviced, you can have it done here: These guys just specialize in the Canon Powershot cameras and the work through them is superb. Through them, it's $89 for the sensor / optical cleaning which covers any parts / labor and the servicing for the rest of the camera. Shipping back with them is included too which we like. Best of all, they do excellent work. Hopefully that helps you with it, good luck.

One of the great things about a fixed lens is you don't have to clean the sensor, in fact getting to the sensor would require dismantling the camera something that only a service depot would be capable of. If you feel you have dirt spots on your pictures then it's possible the front elements needs cleaning.

My canon powershot g12 lcd works fine but the photos are all 'whited' out

You may have the exposure compensation settings overexposing you images. Since it compensates without affecting the image prior to shooting, you won't see it until after the image is taken. Check that and the flash exposure compensation too.

CCD defects

What you are experiencing are symptoms of a failed CCD in the camera. Many years ago Canon did have some models that were affected by bad ccd's, that has long gone and past. Canon does not repair the G12 free unless you are still within the one year warranty on the product.
If you need to have it repaired, this is the place for these models: These guys strictly service the Canons and no other models at all. The work they do is superb and it's not much at all to look after this problem. Through them it runs $89 for parts, labor, the servicing for the camera, and return shipping included. The best part is their work is excellent. Bets of luck with the issue.

What you are experiencing are symptoms of a failing CCD (imaging sensor). Most often, the sensor needs to be replaced. If you need to have it serviced, a great place for these G12 models is: They just service the Canon Powershots exclusively and the work through them is superb. They are not expensive at all, it runs $89 through them to fix this problem. That looks after parts, labor, servicing for the camera, and the return shipping included. This is where a lot of people go for help with the Canons. Hope that helps you with it, best of luck.

I have a Canon G12 camera whic worked fine for six months. Recently many of the photos were far overexposed, but there was no clue anything was wrong before I took the picture. The problem was intermittant...

This is a wise move considering the cost to repair them tend to be high, and warranty can be a life saver in this case. The problem you are describing appears to to be in the lens housing where the sensor is located, the pug on the sensor board has been known to work itself loose causing all kinds of symptoms.

I have a 2000 reg polo i want to put water in for the enginge and it says G12 with a picture of a book and a ! inside the pick what is this? please

A new "G12" coolant additive, recognized by its red color, has been introduced during m.y. 1997, replacing the "G11" used previously.
The "G11" and "G12" coolant additives are NOT interchangeable, and must NEVER be mixed. Use only water or "G12" coolant additive G 012 A8D A1 to top up cooling systems filled with "G12" = GLYSANTIN Alu Protect/G30 silikatfrei

Once coolants stabilize and provided the system remains sealed and airtight (has not overheated where it vented) then the system should not require any flushing or changing of the coolant (specific to HOAT/G12 type coolants).

G12 after about 5,000-10,000 miles reaches that point of stability where the coolant has neutralized any reactions that may occur. As long as that stability is not thrown off, leave it alone.

In the case of the TDI the water pump requires replacement, this should be the only time that the cooling system is drained and flushed and the system refilled. sticking with G12 insures that the original balance of chemicals are maintained as close as possible to the stabilization point to eliminate any risk of system contamination or corrosion.

It's really simple, G12 out, G12 in, to insure system protection and integrity.

Suddenly I touch my G12 s lens and iam afraid how to clean it?

Two methods: 1. Camera lens fluid and a microfiber cloth. Lightly brush away any loose dirt. Lightly dampen the cloth and gently remove the smudge. 2. Purchase a "lenspen" and keep it handy....lasts for years. Just Google "lenspen" and you will find places to order it.

There are two coolant temp sensors. One by the oil filler tube and one near the bottom radiator hose near the radiator.
When you flushed the coolant did you replace with VW rated G12 coloant? Very Important! - You can't use over the counter coolant - it'll cause sludge in your system. You have to use G12...

Hope this helps!
