No real trick. You need to remove the appropriate screws from the bottom. Also you need to remove the keyboard. The case snaps together all around the edge. When separating the two halves, you need to use a small non-marking tool to pry them apart. Normally, the upper half will have little tabs that snap into the bottom. var fctb_tool=null; function FCTB_Init_b009d59c0852451daf980b4dbb93aa38(t) { fctb_tool=t; start(fctb_tool); }

You need to have it done with an experienced technician... but if you really want to do it yourself, Please download the service manual of the Laptop model you have.

You gonna open the laptop by removing multiple screws, locate the power jack and do some repair or replace the power jack.

Please follow service manual on how to unscrew and open your laptop.

When i open my acer the lights indicator has only blink not totally open the computer

Hello, Christopher.

The most common reasons for power issues are the battery, power jack and power adapter/cord.

Power off and remove the battery. If the laptop powers on with just the adapter connected, your battery is faulty.

If you move/wiggle the power adapter at the point where it connects to the laptop, and the power goes off and on, the power jack is the problem.

The power jack is inside the laptop and either needs soldering or replacement. If a power jack problem, it should be addressed by someone knowledgeable.

If no change, the power adapter is probably faulty and needs replacement.

Hope this helps.

My Asus Altec will not power up is there a reset on this laptop. it's not that old so I don't think the battery is dead. and I don't think is a problem with the power supply

There is no reset as such, however you can try the old trick of removing the battery and ac adaptor, pressing the power on button and holding for 30 seconds, then reconnecting the mains supply (not battery) and see if it will then boot.

If this fails, you need to check the following:

  • check the power supply, the led should be bright green and not flashing, if it is, suspect the power is not reaching the laptop.
  • Check the security of the dc jack as it enters the laptop, if loose or sloppy, the jack port will need replacing
  • With a multimeter set to 20 volts, and the power supply plugged in, touch the RED terminal of the meter to the INNER part of the jack and the BLACK terminal to the outer of the jack. Getting less than 20 volts (give or take a couple of volts) means the adaptor is not putting out power.
  • If this fails, and / or you try another adaptor and it fails also, you will need to open the laptop. (google for a manual on this or you tube video)
  • On the motherboard, there will be a small ceramic fuse near the DC jack, using a multimeter set to OHMS, touch one probe to to one side of the fuse and the other to the opposite side, you should get a reading, if not, the main fuse is blown and will need replacing. (There may be another fuse near the battery, test this also to prove the battery circuit is working)
  • If the fuse gives a reading, I THINK this laptop has a DC jack with wire to motherboard not soldered onto the board, again using the multimeter set to OHMS, probe the positive (inner part of the jack socket) and connect the other probe to the terminal that connects to the motherboard (positive terminal) There may be 4 connections, 2 neg and 2 pos.
  • If the test fails, replace the socket.
After that, the likelihood is that there is a fault on the board and will need more specialist investigation

Laptop won't power on, suspect bad power port, is it better to replace just the power port or the whole motherboard? How hard is it to replace the whole motherboard?

Depends on the machine. In some case, the dc jack is easy to replace. IN other cases, you need to do soldering.

It takes about an hour to open an average laptop for the first time. When you get down the motherboard and jack. If the jack has power lines coming from it, you should be able to replace the jack for about $30.

If it is directly on the motherboard, you will need to solder. I would suggest a pro to do the soldering. That will cost you about $100 to $150.

You don't need to bother with the motherboard. It will cost more than an new computer.

A bad connection between the power jack and the

What needs to happen is on the motherboard underneath the power jack, there are solder points that have hairline cracks in them. The best way to fix it is to remove the motherboard from the laptop and to resolder all the solder points for the power jack.

Once you do this then the power should stay on cause wiggling the power cord won't cause the laptop to turn off.

How can I fix the loose power jack?

The last 2 screws to separate top from bottom are located ynder the 3/8" wide clip on plastic piece above your function buttons. Center screw and right hand side. Be careful of ribbons, plug-ins and wires that attach to both sides. I strongley suggest not doing this if you are not mechanically inclined. You could very easily cause damage to your laptop.

Replace dc power jack

Hi, by dc power jack, if you mean the one at the back of your toshiba laptop, to replace, you may have to completely disassemble the unit and expose the back of the printed circuit board. This would involve removal of several small screws, panels, brackets, devices (hd. kb, cd, etc), connectors, cables. The screws would normally be small philips + but others might require a torx driver. Once the back of the main pcb is exposed, you can proceed to desolder the jack. normally there are 2 or 3 solder points. Simply insert the new jack and solder in place, reassemble and that should do the trick. However, if you are not comfortable with disaasmebly and soldering, it might be to your advantage to let somebody technically trained to perform the replacement for you. Hope this helps. Please let me know how it turns up. Regards.
