Hello.

Extract the hard drive from the case and connect it to a USB2.0 IDE data cable and AC supply. See if the drive is recognizable.

If not, depending how valuable your data, there are data recovery services in the marketplace, but they are generally expensive and cannot guarantee success.

Hope this helps.

Toshiba laptop restarting

The loop on your Toshiba Satellite laptop refers to the computer not booting properly.

During the loop, the computer will try to boot the Windows operating system and keep restarting over and over again.

This is not a hardware issue with your Toshiba Satellite A106.

The issue resides in the startup files on your computer's hard drive.

You can fix this by running a repair tool that comes with your Windows operating system.

This repair tool will fix your startup disk and allow you to get your computer back up and running.

Insert your Windows 7 installation disc into your computer's optical drive.

Start your computer and wait for it to boot from the install disc.

Choose your language from the menu and then click the "Next" button.

Click "Repair your computer" from the menu.

Choose the operating system you are using and then click the "Next" button.

Click on the "Disable Automatic Restart On System Failure" button to disable the startup loop.

Click the "Startup Repair" tool from the menu and wait for the computer to fix your startup disk.

Wait for the computer to finish repairing your startup disk and then allow it to restart automatically.

Wait for the computer to boot correctly to your login screen.

Hope this helps

A lot of the models in the A665 laptop series have a sensor and software installed on the computer that senses when the computer is motion ( a g-sensor) the point of this sensor is to lock the platters in the hard drive to prevent the most damage possible if the laptop is dropped. you should be able to access toshiba software manager for this and either disable or remove the notifications.

I dropped my external hard drive - a Verbetim terrabyte hard drive. Now, when I turn it on, it makes mechanical noises and won't connect to my computer (USB). I'm not too concerned about trying to fix the...

If your drive is making whining and clicking sounds, then you have a mechanically damaged drive which had what we called a 'head crash' due to the drop!
If you can read/access the disk partitions/drives, I strongly suggest that you perform a full disk backup (with track error skipping) to another device. Also try a file by file copy to another drive (slow but you know exactly what is accessible).
You may want to try to use 'Spinrite' (Google and read about it first) to attempt to repair some of the issues but unfortunately, a disk 'head crash' is usually fatal physical condition and data recovery requires specialized equipment and is VERY expensive!
Hope it helps: let me know ho you go!

Hi, click start, click control panel, click sound and audio device, click audio tab, that will tell what kind of audio software your laptop is using. You may click hardware and click the sound software and the driver update or roll back drive will appear choose which one you preffered. if this did not work just download driver. You can go download to the web site a driver. click control panel click add and remove you can see the the kind of sound software your laptop is using. You can use a different sound driver for your laptop. Realtek 97. type www.realtek.com and free download sound driver. Before installing the a new drive you have to delete the old sound driver to your laptop to the control panel. then install the new driver. Toshiba laptop can't boot

Sounds to me like you may have a stuck key on the keyboard if its making sounds during bootup.

Could also be a problem with the hard drive if its staying on the toshiba startup screen.

Take the hard drive out of the unit and then turn on the laptop and see if it at least gets past the toshiba screen, if it does then turn off the laptop and put the hard drive back in. Turn the laptop back on and if it hangs then you know for sure at that point that the hard drive is bad and it will need to be replaced.

If you heard one beep after another and it doesn't stop then you know the keyboard is faulty. If you heard clanking sounds then you know the hard drive is bad that way as well.

Clicking noise

If you have a samsung hard disk drive. they will start to make a noise after a while.I say samsung because I haven't ever heard another drive make the noise as loud as the samsung. This is the drive parking the heads to save power on the battery. The drive is going to fail on you if it is very noisy. (sounds like a coin hitting a wood floor) You can disable the power savings on the drive in some operating systems. Not sure about osx. I only used desktops with that os. I would emagine it is possible.

Put the laptop back together, its possible youve damaged one of the boards, and the "coin sounds" you hear are jsut beeps from the motherboard indication some form of system failure. call toshiba and see if you have any warranty coverage, and out of curiosity what did you drop on it? something heavy i presume?
