Question about Goodman GMS90703BXA Heater

1 Answer

I have a Goodman model #PGB036100-1 tha both air and heat quit at same time. The fan will run on heat system but will not ignite or call for fuel in order to fire up. I pulled the 5 amp fuse out and as I put it back I noticed a spark on the switch were the main electrical wires connect. I tightened these wires and the air will work sometimes. When it doesn't come on I can losen the wires and tighten them again and the air starts. Will this switch also control the heat system and the switch be the source of my problem?

Hello jmr....Yes. Definitely change that switch. Also, these models MUST be thoroughly cleaned at least 3 times each heating season soooooo while you are in there working on that switch also hit it with a bristle brush and the hose from a strong shop vac. Joe

Thanks for choosing Fixya!

Furnace running all the time.

Pull the thermostat off the wall. If the fan keeps running, it is a relay in the board or just an independent fan relay.

Model #GMPN100-4 Goodman furnace. Vent fan

The sequence of events for furnace operation is -

Fan purge for 30-45 seconds. During this time, a pressure switch is actuated by the running of the purge fan, proving the control board the purge fan is running.

After purge and purge prove, the hot surface ignition and or spark begins. After a few second delay, the gas valve will open. The control board then monitors for flame prove through another sensor located near the burners. If there is no flame within 3-5 seconds, the gas valve closes. It will repeat this process, usually 3 times, before it shuts the system down, which requires a power down of the system to reset.

I have seen trash get into the hose between the purge blower and the purge switch. But you could be having other problems.

Outside a/c fan quits but compresser still runs

it sounds like the fan is over amping itself and shutting down on thermal overload check the amp draw during running time and compare it to the sticker on the outside panel it should be running .9 amps, and it will over heat if it runs around 1.2 amps or above

then you need toi have them check the fan high limit that is mounted in the blower compartment. if it's closed then the blower fan and the conmbustion air fan will run together.

Compressor fan not running

Does it look like the coils are frosting over? Is it steaming? Keep watching, after about 30 min does the fan come back on?

If yes to any/all the above then the unit is probably in defrost mode and yes the fan will stop blowing during that time, but restart when the unit goes back into regular heat mode.

During this time you will likely notice warmer heat from the vents than normal and the "AUX or EM HEAT" light will be on.

That is your backup heat system. It should automatically come on during a defrost cycle.
