OK, friends. Time to fix it !!. Replace two Ic's Stk 392-110, and get in service menu settings , and adjust point by point. After replaced stk IC's, check if any resistor look brown or born, if yes, replaced it with 6.8 Ohms.SOme time SSB is defective ( small signal board, replaced it ). for Parts go to , matelectronics.com . If you have questions? noetvs@embarqmail.com . Good Luck !!

I have a hitachi 43FDX15B RPTV It appears to have a convergence problem, I've read about replacing the stk IC's but which resistors need to be replaced and what are the values on the DP15k/08 Board?

This model uses two of the STK-392-120 CHIPS and here are most of the usual resistors to suspect or check:

Hitachi AT03411S RK43 RESISTOR Hitachi AT03608S RP22 RESISTOR Hitachi AT03195S RK46,RK54, RK62 RESISTOR, 1.8OHM 1W Hitachi AT03857M R815,R865 RESISTOR, 1/2W 100 OHM Hitachi AT03191S RK50 RESISTOR, 1W 1.2 OHM Hitachi AT03197S RK50 RESISTOR, 1W 2.2 OHM Hitachi AT03199S RK41 RESISTOR, 2.7 OHM 1W Hitachi AT03202S RK42 RESISTOR, 3.3OHM 1W Hitachi AT03204S RK58 RESISTOR, 3.9 OHM 1 WATTThe RK ones are all marked on top and bottom of circuit board---usually if one is bad you will be able to see it is discolored---all are very low value and should read open or good only.

This is a fairly easy set to do this on---the whole convergence board (right side from the back view) is held in with 3 screws and an assortment of plugs--3 plugs are identical (convergence yokes and you need to mark so you get each back in same place)

A row of black snap plugs on the left side and with the screws and other plugs removed the board will lift up and out of the set.

DON'T waste your money on one of the "kits" being sold on the net---you can buy a pair of the chips for about 12 dollars on Ebay and usually only one (if any) of the resistors will be bad---those kits sound like a good idea but at 50-80 you are buying things you will not likely need to repair the set.

Let me know if you have any questions and if this information helped you rate this solution as I do this here for free.

I was told that my convergence ic's need to be replaced along with the 6.8 ohm watt resistors. What doI ask for the ic's and what watt resistors should I ask for. where can I buy these ic's and resistors.

I can help---what level of skill do you have at soldering?

I know these sets pretty well--to begin with confirm actual model number to me---The IC's and resistors can be bought.

The question is are you able to solder etc if I step you thru it?

Whatever chips the set uses you can buy a pair on Ebay for under 15 dollars--the resistors can be purchased at any electronics or TV repair place.

I help people here even AFTER they give me a vote here--idea is for you to get your set fixed and save money.

Tell me exact model and how much skill you have and I will assist you---I do this here for free.

1.5 ohm resistor rk 46 keeps blowing

You should have put the original OEM STK's in the set - if your set had 110's or 120s put those chips only. Do not risk different chips with different specs/amps/ etc....when you do resistors blow as you have discovered.

Tv comes on and shutts off immediately

Did you change any of the 6.8 ohm 1watt resistors with the ICs? That chassis always blows at least two of the 6.8 ohm resistors often four of the 6.8 ohm. And you cant always tell by looking at the resistors , they have to have one side unsoderd and lifted from circuit. There are 11 of them 3149 - 3160 are the 6.8 ohm resistors that need to be checked.

Blue convergence

Thats the classisc sign that you need to replace both convergence ICs. You will need two Convergence ICs STK392-120 and then six resistors they are RK42 3.3 ohm 1watt, RK46 1.5 ohm 1watt, RK50 2.7 ohm 1watt, RK54 1.5 ohm 1watt, RK58 3.9 ohm 1watt, RK62 1.8 ohm 1watt. You can get replacement ICs and resistors at the following link and they provide free instalation instructions with pictures so you can repair the set yourself. Heres the link.

You need to replace both convergence ICs they are STK392-110 you will alos need (two0 3.3 ohm 1 watt metal film resistors. (two) 1.8 ohm 1watt Metal film resistors, (one) 3.9 ohm 1watt metal film and 9one) 2.2 ohm 1watt metal film resistor. You can get new replacement Ics and resistors at the following link and they include free instalation instructions with pictures. Here is the link.

Resistors

Okay R939 resistors are 3.3 OHM 2 watt metal film. and R950 are 270 OHM 2 watt metal film. The 3.3 ohm are the most likely. One end has to be unsolderd fro circuit and lifted out to check them if they dont read 3.3 ohm they need to be replaced as they are 5% tolerant resistors. I Cant find the rating for R392 can you tell me the color bands on them and are they the same size as the other two type resistors? The 3.3 are the ones I would check if they read 3.3 they are good but if they dont measure or measure high replace them, and let me know the details on R392 color bands and size.

Conversion Problem

did you remove one side of the resistors before checking them with the ohms meter? They have to be out of circuit to accurately check them. Also you need to be careful where you purchase the ICs as alot of places sell the chap chinese versions and they often fail within a few days. Heres a link where you can get quality ICs and resistors as well as free tech support.

Blue converge problem

STK refers to a Sanyo style Ic, in this case your Tv takes a STK393-110 at board location Ic8c00 Mits p/n# 267p155010.
If you don't buy from MDEA make sure to get Sanyo originals from a trusted distributor like ACME Enterprises in Florida. If you're going to attempt this youself you'll also need a good soldering station (like a wes50), a DMM, some heat sink compound and alot of patience.
Use the DMM to test the value of the low ohm resistors that feed those amps. In this case, blue being bad, my guess is you'll find R8c21 & R8c22 (3.9 ohm 1 watt) changed in value or nearly wide open. But check all the 3.9 ohm resistors in that circuit.
The STK393-110 is a multi-layer / multi-pin Ic on a large aluminum heat sink. You'll want to have the patience of Job to extract and insert the new one. Bend the pins too badly and it can make the task ten times more difficult.
Don't hold the solder tip on these too long and don't be in a big hurry to solder them all in one sitting. Solder and couple and give it a few seconds to dissipate heat...
Hope this helps!
Bill
