This is normally a power saver setting. If you have all ready set your power saver options to correct this then your battery is weak.

That sounds like a setting in the Power Management section.
Right click on the battery icon and select Power Options and have a look at the brightness settings on battery also while there check Adjust Brightness as well.
Hope that fixes it.

Click on Coin-Cell Battery in the right hand list.

1) Remove ALL power. Remove the AC adapter (Charger), and Battery.

2) Suggest lay a soft static free cloth on the table you're working on. Helps prevent scratching the table, and laptop.
Turn the laptop over, Battery Compartment facing away from you.

3) Remove the Memory Compartment Cover,

(Number 2 - memory module/coin-cell battery compartment )

The RTC Battery is that small plastic 'bag', that has a Red and White wire coming out of it, and ending in a small white plug connector.

(Real Time Clock Battery. Term coined now for CMOS Battery )

Replace battery, close cover, reinstall main battery, and AC adapter.

Dell inspiron 1520 won't turn on.

Remove the battery from its compartment on the side of your Dell Inspiron laptop computer.

Remove the power adapter from its plug on the side of the Dell Inspiron (if your laptop is currently plugged into a wall outlet).

Press down and hold the "Power" button on the laptop for one to two minutes. This will dispel the excess electrical current that is built up inside the laptop.

Put the battery back inside the compartment of your Dell Inspiron.

Plug your power adapter back into the side of the Dell Inspiron. Press "Power." Your laptop computer will now turn on.

hope this helps

My screen on my dell inspiron 1520 has gone black

You've lost your desktop display.
The first thing I would do is to start the computer in safe mode. Once there, do a system restore back to the time that it worked.
I would also, just to be safe, do your disk management tasks like checking your hard drive for errors and running defrag.

Check your display settings in the Power save part of Control Panel. You can set a brightness for battery and AC. Normally you set it brighter on AC and dimmer on battery (to save battery life) but if you've adjusted it for some reason that would explain it

My laptop dell latitude d600 turns itself off its screen and fan

If your laptop with battery is OK
That is because the adapter connect to power is not very firm.

My inspiron 1520 LCD screen also has this problem, I change the adapter and Patch board . so it work fine now.

If your laptop work with battery also have this problem, it maybe caused by power supply system setup.

Screen is dim

Try looking for a function key (usually used by holding down the Fn key and then pressing one of the "F" key at the top) the key will be marked with a brightness indicator.

Is your screen only dim when running off the battery is it dim when running when the charger is plugged in as well. If it is only dim when the laptop is running on battery then this may be caused by a setting in Power Options which is located in Control Panel (that is if your running Windows). In Power Options look for settings about running on AC Power and running on Battery power.
