Hi, I have a toshiba sattelite a55-s106 laptop that I recently upgraded from xp to vista home prem. After that I decide to add more ram. The system is supposed to be able to handle 2gb of ram max. If I install anything more than 1gb of ram the machine will not boot and only beep. As long as you have 1gb or less installed the thing boots fine. I also have the latest BIOS installed. I wonder if installing the Vista might be the culprit?

Hi, the ram sticks are from Crucial and they are identical and they are not defective. They each work if installed seperately.
    Thanks for trying!

Vista will not be the culprit here. The beep most likely meens that thee is a problem with the memory stick itself, especially if it boots normally when you take it out again. Motherboards are mostly designed to take identical sticks of RAM in pairs (Same brand, same model, same amount of memory) and sometimes, you will find that different manufacturer's RAM will not work in some systems.

Check to see if the RAM stick you are putting in is the same brand/model as the one already in. Also check to make sure it has the same amount of RAM on it. It could also be defective.

I hope that helps

I want to update my graphics card

The video subsystem in Toshiba notebook computers is an integral part of the overall design of the computer. As is the case with most notebook computers designs, it's not possible to upgrade the video subsystem or to add memory to it.

sorry
