An electric train is simply a DC motor and a gearbox. Take the body off and check the motor for continuity. If it checks okay, carefully, tourn the motor. You might have a broken gear in the gearbox. A good hobby shop should be able to find parts or, you can get them online.

get a meeter and check the volts on the line both ways,,,there DC volts both should read the same near as can be,,,,if volts are the same both ways on the lines,,, its the trains motor,,,,

Check the engine motor and second car motor with a digital multimeter for continuity. Make sure the track is connected properly. Also probe the transformer and see if it is sending out power to the track
