The keyboard on our hp does not work. Appears there is no power (power light stays on about 1 sec when we first connect to the tower. plugged in another keyboard with the same results. Is there a driver or a internal board that has gone bad? Thanks, KT

If the machine otherwise boots fine except for the keyboard. Your problem could be in the keyboard port. Try using a usb keyboard to test it.

On a hp pavilion a 1 1 10n I did somehing to cause

computer keyboards can have faults in several ways, but the most likely is liquids being spilt on them, causing them to do odd things or to just stop working completely.
There's loads of people having problems with this series of keyboards. With some keyboards the speed is wrong for them being checked (USB versions) and you can easily type faster than the keyboard controller can respond so it just goes nuts :-(
Notably, lots of laptops have a problem handling fast typing and tend to throw the cursor around or mis and add random letters.
Try a different keyboard just in case. Check its wire and connections for breaks/damage. Plug it into another USB port if possible some towers give lower power/resources to some USB ports - especially ones on the front of tower cases.
Also, some odd BIOS's allow you change the typing rate/speed (usually quite old ones though). If that value doesn't match your keyboard enough you can have problems.

simple fix.Unplug tower; hold power button for 10 secs for discharge; take off cover; uninstall your CMOS battery(the silver watch battery the size of a nickel), and plug unit back in; power on for 15 secs. This will set HP back to factory settings default. Cut off; re-install CMOS battery, and plug back up. this should fix problems. hope this helps...

I have an HP pavilion M9040N tower that has power (green Light on) but shuts of in 1-2 seconds after turning on the power button( blue light) on top. Tried removing various components with no change...

As you have already troubleshooted a lot ... but i want you to check by replacing power-supply (SMPS) in most of the cases such problem are created by faulty smps. No doubt it's getting on but SMPS can create such problem. So check with that if haven't check for it.

Tower problems

You may need to replace the cmos battery, its a cr2032 3v button cell
Make sure all your expansion cards and memory are reseated.
Make sure all cables are reseated.
your power supply could be bad

If that doesn't work try this

Here is my fix for the dell dimension 4400 amber light problem. It works!
replace cmos battery.
then unplug power cord form wall about 5-10 secs.
then plug it back in, wait 5 secs.
If amber light comes on, press and hold power button until it goes out.

(with light out, press and hold power button while amber light comes on and goes off again holding power button 2-3 secs after light goes out.) repeat whats in parenthesis until computer turns on
it should only take about 6, 7 tries.

After the computer boots, you may want to setup cmos or boot into windows.
After you shutdown, unplug power cord for 5-10 secs then plug it back in.
Press and hold the power button, computer should come on.
I found that's the only way to turn on the computer.
If you shutdown and don't unplug power cord the computer may not boot, mine didn't.
Strange I'd say

Hp pavillion desktop will not power up. Blinking green light at power supply

Step 1 : Turn off the system by pressing the power button for 5 - 10 sec until the power LED is off. Removed all cables including the power cable (Exclude monitor cable and KeyBoard/Mouse).

Step 2 : Press power button for 5-10 sec again to drain fela power.

Step 3 : Reconnect the power cable at the back of the tower/computer and power on the system.

**If the same problem exists, Call HP tech Support (800-474-6836) because there is a high possibility that you have a bad Motherboard or Power Supply on the system.
