Enable hypthreading i3 2120

The Intel Core i3, model 2120 Microprocessor is based on the Nehalem micro-architecture,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nehalem_%28microarchitecture%29

In the old days you had Intel Pentium 4's, that had Hyperthreading Technology. HT.

One REAL processor core operating, and one VIRTUAL processor core.
The Processor teamed up on the task at hand, using TWO processor cores.

Yes, you guessed it. TWO processors.
One REAL, one VIRTUAL.

The Nehalem micro-architecture brought HT back out.

Then the Sandy Bridge micro-architecture came out. Came out to replace the Nehalem micro-architecture,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sandy_Bridge

The Intel Core i3 2120 is based on the 32nm Sandy Bridge, micro-architecture.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sandy_Bridge#Desktop_platform

Now instead of having TWO processor cores, you can have FOUR with two REAL ones, and two VIRTUAL ones.

FOUR processors is what is essentially being said here.
TWO real ones, TWO virtual ones.

HOWEVER, your load that you are doing;...............

Internet searches...
Business/Office application, or program...
Game...
Video editing...........

Is not enough to use FOUR processor cores. So HT is not enabled at this time.

An aggressive, intensive new game, will click HT on; but who am I to know?

Program that you have multiple applications within it opened?
Running four or more programs?
Running two games at once?

Editing the lunar space program? lol!

Maybe THESE will kick HT on, dunno.

For additional questions please post in a Comment.

[Having HT with a processor that has TWO processor cores; is like having an alcohol burning dragster processor.

You don't use it to go to the supermarket ]

[Oh, and by the way;

NO, Intel Core i3 does NOT mean 3 processor cores.

There are TWO.

Processor Core:
Having two processor cores on ONE die chip; means there are TWO processors.
TWO processors contained in that one processor.

HT is kicked on you have FOUR processors ]

Hi sir/mam, i have a gigabyte motherboard 7vm333m-rz n now i m presently in tis board AMD processor is running... can i change the processor by pentium 3 instead of AMD.

-> NO

It has a Socket 462 processor socket. (Also known as Socket A,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socket_A )

This is strictly for AMD processors ONLY, and only for AMD processors that use this processor socket.

An Intel Pentium III processor, that is not a Slot 1 processor, uses a Socket 370,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socket_370

List of Intel Pentium III Microprocessors,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Intel_Pentium_III_microprocessors#.22Coppermine.22_.28180_nm.29

Scroll down also.

{ If it states Slot 1 AND Socket 370, it means there are processors Intel made, that were that model, but could have been a Slot 1 processor, or Socket 370 processor.

Using the first example;
Pentium III 500E,

http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Pentium-III/index.html

The first example on top, is an Intel Slot 1 processor style.
The rest of them on down are Socket 370 processors, EXCEPT for the Pentium III Xeon. (Zee-On)
It is a Slot 1 processor.

I bought a flip hd mincorder and it needs a least a 2.0 p4 processor. I have a 1.7 p4. Can I swap to a faster processor ? would I notice an improvement ?

You will notice a lot of improvement in the speed and working of the PC when you change it to a faster processor. You can run the mini-corder with your 1.7Ghz P4 processor but you will soon be tired with the slow response of your PC. Changing it to a faster processor is a better option. You will be able to notice a change in the working of your PC with the mini-corder.
Before buying a Processor make sure you old processor can be replaced. Old Motherboards do not allow the replacement of the processor as it would be soldered. If you cannot change the Processor you will have to get a new motherboard with a better processor if you need a better one.
I suggest you buy an Intel Core2Duo or an Intel iCore Processor, not a P4. Leave a comment if you need more guidance. Don't forget to rate the solution.

I have pentinum4 intel(R) celeron processor 1.3 GHZ processor. I want to increase the speed of my processor without any hardware change. I have 40 GB HD & 512MB with windows XP RAM.plz help

you cannot change the speed of your processor unless your processor supports overclocking. however your processor does not support that.

if your computer is running slow try upgrading the RAM to 1GB.
also check to see whether you have unwanted applications running in the background

What processor speed can fit my motherboard GA-75748?

Motherboards designed for AMD processors have radical differences in design from those designed for Intel processors. The most obvious of those differences is the socket which accommodates the processor, which is totally different in both case.
This means that you cannot use an Intel processor on a motherboard designed for an AMD processor, & vice versa. You have to replace the motherboard with one designed for the Intel processor you plan to use.

What processor?

Not all processors fit laptops. You shouldn't get a higher powered processor as you would then need to change the power supply as laptops are set to suit themselves.

Getting an intel may stop problems accoring.

Processor compatability

Processors have a matched frequency rating with the motherboard and memory. So, when replacing or upgrading the processor, the new processor will need to have the same frequency as the old one. If the processors use the same type of memory, ie... PC2100, then ther are most likely compatable, and the use of a processor that was made for or from the same make of laptop is always a good idea. Some processors are designed specifically for use in certain manufacturer's system configurations. For example; say you have a Dell Latitude C840 with a 1.8ghz processor and you want to upgrade to a 2.2ghz processor from a Dell Inpiron 8600, this will work. Both of these machines use the PC2100 memory and have a matched frequency rating of 266mhz, and the processors are made for use in Dell machines. If you would like to tell me exactly what you're wanting to do, maybe I can recomend a processor for you. Let me know.

Overheating? Processor running at half speed?

If the PC boot and start I believe your processor is OK, it's very unlikely that a bad processor can start.
Normally the average temperature of a processor is between 40-50 degree C. Your processor is overheating and it will not last too long.
Please look at the link here below http://processorfinder.intel.com/List.aspx?ProcFam=483&sSpec=&OrdCode=
and see if you can reconize your processor. The number on the left is the same number printed on your processor (You have to remove the fan again).
As a second test I suggest you to download the Asus manual of your motherboard and verify that you don't have any jumper that you are missing.
If you want to post the motherboard type I can further help you.
