Question about Pioneer 20x External USB 2.0 Double-Layer DVD RW/CD-RW Drive

1 Answer

My burner is giving me problems burning a dvd. If I let it burn at automatic speed it will give me an error after 2/3 of the burn. It says to clean the disk or try another disk. I tried 2 more times with different dvds getting the same error. I then tried burning with a re-writeable dvd and got the same error. I even tried to slow the burn down to 4x on the rewriteable. It looks like it did write 4 of the 6 files that I was burning. It shows all 6 file names on the directory but only 4 of them work. Each time I burned exactly the same 6 files. Could this be a file error? Or is something that is wrong with the drive such that all I will be able to burn is about 3 gig worth? Any ideas?

Sounds like your lens is dirty. Try to clean it with a soft cloth with a little bit of isopropyl alcohol, preferably a microfiber cloth.

I have always been using Nero burn software with my LG GSA-2166D DVD RW. Now I bought Nero Multimedia Suite 10. No any writing process has been successful. I have since yesterday spoiled 10 DVD's....

speed of source data is too slow = the hard disk cannot deliver the data fast enough and the burning process stops; this is a sign of a severely fragmented file system and very charged background processes: defragment your hard disk, stop using other programs when burning a disk and use 8X as a recording speed.
Track Following Error = the laser head in the burner is no longer capable of following the track it has itself burned - the lens is dirty, clean it.

My dvdr/rw wont burn dvds properly

There are many reason for this.Try following steps to look out for solution.

1>Use better quality Dvd to burn .DVDs are just a few cents worth of plastic, manufactured in massive quantities. Sometimes you end up with a bad disk or a bad batch. Try a new disk, or a whole new brand, and you may have more luck burning your DVDs

2>Dust in your DVD burner can prevent it from burning DVDs correctly. Buy a lens cleaning disk and use it in your DVD burner drive. This can clean things up and give you a clean, successful burn.

3>For better quality burn at slow speed. It’s always tempting to burn DVDs at the highest speed possible. In theory, you’ll save time and can get more DVDs burned. In practice, though, higher speeds can result in unreliable burns.
Slow things down and set your DVDs to burn at 4x or even 2x. This may eliminate errors.
I hope this will solve your problem.

I only can write with 4x maximum while dvd could

DVD burners will only write to the maximum stated.

Also if you are using 4x DVDs then that is all they will burn at without often giving errors when used.

Trying to burn a 4x DVD at lets say 16x can cause burn failure or data corruption.

Cd's on the other hand can burn at lower speeds than they are stated.

To burn DVDs at higher speeds your burner needs to be capable of that speed

Burning dvd image using Roxio disc copier

burning dvd images using roxio really does wonders. however, when you trying burning it to your physical dvdrom, it fails. this may be due to firmware bugs or needs some fixes. have it updated to the lastest firmware update and regularly clean your vdvroms lens with a cleaning kit.

so how is it now?

Some disc brands just don't work with certain burners, and that can result in the said error. Did the store give you a different brand when they replaced your old batch? this error can also be a result from burning too much to the disc, or from trying to copy protected content. If you're burning movies, I would suggest that you close all other programs while burning, and burn at the lowest speed. Regardless to the error, you'll get a better quality result. Good luck
