So you are trying to play the audio from your cd's through the HDMI with the TV off? For that the TV has to be on. You should be able to hook up an alternate audio out from your blue ray player to your amp. This way you can listen to the audio with the TV off. So all you really need is one set of audio cables.
Hope that helps.
Thanks,
Lee

What is the model of your amplifier? I will need to know exactly what sources you have going to what. You have the blue ray player going to what? and what kind of cable are you using on the blue ray player? Is it going HDMI straight to the TV? If so you will have to use a different audio connection on the blue ray player to the amplifier. That is your best option.
    Let me know and enjoy.
    Thanks,
    Lee

What is the exact model of your "amplifier" also I need to know what inputs and outputs you are using on your tv, blue ray player, and "amplifier".
Once I get all the information I know we can get it working.
    Thanks,
    Lee

Are you using HDMI from the blue ray to the TV and then to your amplifier?
    Thanks,

If the audio is going to the tv / speakers with hdmi, then no the screen has to be turned off.

Unless you setup a external sound system.

Yamaha RX-V595 Receiver will play Dolby Digital 3/2.1 audio Blu-Ray disc with player set to bitstream but will not play DTS-HD 3/2.1 unless output is set to PCM. Is this an issue with the Yamaha Recei

The optical connection (SPDIF) doesn't have enough bandwidth to transfer DTS-HD audio. To use DTS-HD, you must connect the blue-ray player and receiver via HDMI cable.

Each DTS-HD audio track on blue-ray includes also "normal" DTS audio, which is probably used when you select PCM. Player decodes it and sends decoded (non-HD) audio via optical cable to receiver.

Dmp bd30 will not play normal. It will only play regular DVDs.

Unfortunately the problem is in the laser pickup assembly, the Blu-Ray DVD requires a higher velocity and precision to play this type of disc and is the first to fail. The only solution is to replace the DVD Player rather than have it repaired, far cheaper in the long run.

1080P video via HDMI generates awful interference

Your Plasma's native resolution is 720P. Go into the Blu Ray's output setup. you can choose 480p 480i 720p 1080i and 1080p. Set it for 720p that should clear up the issue. You may have to run Component directly to the TV since you only have 1 HDMI input and you can run Digital coax or optical to your AV receiver for audio. On a 50" TV the difference between 720p and 1080p using "GOOD" cables cannot be seen by the human eye. Above 50, yes it is noticeable.
Hope this helps.
