Question about Harman Kardon HKTS 12 System

Open Question

My Harmon Kardon TS-7 sub-woofer all of the sudden is making strange noises as though it's receiving interference. Sounds almost like pulsating radio interference. I upgraded the cable, no effect. Any ideas?

SOURCE: My Aiwa powererd sub-woofer TS-W50U) has crackling

Crackling is an unusual noise but typically indicates a bad capacitor in the amplifier board. This can be a rather costly repair but first we will go through basic trouble shooting steps.

Reduce the volume on the sub and see if the noise remains and changes with the volume.

Unplug the sub and disconnect interconnect cables. With both hands push softly on the speaker cone to move it in, let it back out and do this a few times. If you hear a scraping noise and some resistance your driver is misaligned and you need to recone or replace the driver.

Check all your interconnect cables, there may be a bad internal connection (usually causes pops and cut-outs).

Let me know how things workout. If it makes the crackling noise at all volumes and the driver seems fine then I would seek a professional to repair it, or replace.

Cheers,

Kevin

SOURCE: My HKTS 7 Sub woofer makes no noise, the led burns

Subwoofer is center speaker from A+B speaker signals. first check your wire to the receiver. Otherwise you need electronics service on the amplifier inside the speaker.

SOURCE: hello, my Harman Kardon HKTS

It could be because of your subwoofer AMP is gone.

Temp fix: Disconnect the subwoofer wire from receiver for 20-30mins and plug-it back. It did work for couple of months.

3.5 m/m. Normally it is color coded green. The pink connects the subwoofer to the speakers. Any color will work. Just mark both ends of wire jacks.

Harmon Kardon Receiver "Protect" Mode issue

If your receiver enters protect mode with no speakers connected, it is an indication that you will have to start troubleshooting inside. This will involve visual checking and checking with a multimeter to isolate the problem. A further issue is finding out why your JBL woofer keeps blowing fuses. It could be shorted.

How to connect the subwoofer to my Tv Samsung???

Most of the time there is a foldback of the left and right audio inputs of the subwoofer in that they use and sum the L and R audio and then filter the high end off. That means that the audio outs from your source be it the TV audio outs or a AV receiver that they can be Y corded to the sub woofer for that purpose.

I have a bose v20 and a harmon kardon receiver. Should I be returning the bose system, buy just the speakers, and and outside subwoofer, or what is the best system for watching movies etc? What would be...

If you have the harmon kardon receiver, check out this reasonably priced system. You can actually find it cheaper than at this website but I have these speakers and, when paired with the Klipsch sub-woofer, it makes movie watching an unbelievable experience.

Humming noise

Usually Humming noises come from frequency interferance.  In this case it is being caused by your input sources.  A smiply solution is to replace the cables and or seperate the source cables away from any electircal cords or sources.

Low noise is heard when sub is on..very low brum.

Salutations valikan,

It sounds like you may have some basic interference either in your power, or other sources. I have something similar when my sub is not in use I pick up talk radio, it drove me in sane for months untill I figured it out.

There are a few things you can do to help eliminate interference would be to purchase a surge protector with a power "filter" or conditioner. Also check the cabling to your sub-woofer if there are any breaks or weak spots in the insulation this could be causing interference as well.

And as always if possible read through your owners manual to see if there are any adjustments that can be made on your sub-woofer it self.

Hope this helps.

Harmon Speaker distortion

Hi, I came across a similar problem with an old Altec and the the solution was to only replace the defective side. Actually, what was replaced was only the speaker itself inside the enclosure which was cheaper rather than replacing the entire assembly. An electronics technician (not necessarily a computer tech) can do the job since some soldering might be involved.
