Question about Car Audio & Video

Open Question

I have a Kenwood KDC 7155 head unit on my 1996 volkswagen jetta. The head unit is not working and doesn't even turn on so I am trying to figure out a way to remove the head unit from the car to try and check if there are any bad connections. Should I just remove the entire dashboard and try and get it out that way? Also, any input on toubleshooting the head unit itself would be greatly appreciated.

SOURCE: Kenwood car stereo KDC-W3534 : warning message PROTECT

This is a safety feature and it usually suggest that there is a problem with the internal amplifier, it could also be a trapped speaker wire. Remove the radio and check if any of the cables have been damaged and if you power up the radio with the speaker plug disconnected that will tell you if the fault is in the car or the radio

KDC-MP4032 head unit wont turn on

hi, seeing that your kenwood showed up "protect" you may have an audio circuit/amplifier fault within the unit. try resetting the unit to see if unit comes "on" again. if the unit comes on and protect flashes again, then you definitely have an internal audio circuit fault. if not then check all power connections(yellow and red wire voltages, as well as ground connection), as well as the condition of the face pins!

I can't play my iphone on my kenwood KDC-MP435U

Jennifer, I have the same issue. the problem is that the 2007+ generations of Kenwood receivers are not compatible with the iPhone. You will need to get a 2009+ series in order to use your iPhone with the head unit. I had the same issue with the Kenwood KDC-MP435U in my mustang. I am going to get a newer head unit that supports the iPhone. You cannot do it with the MP435U.

Security code Lockout

I had a similar issue with a head unit in a newer Volkswagen. There was an unlock code burried in the vehicle's owners's manual.

Since your stero is an aftermarket model, I would bet the unlock code is in the manual for the head unit.

Kenwood kdc-mp528 amp/speaker problem???

This is a common mistake. This problem indicates that you are using the solid blue wire from the head unit to the remote turn-on on the amp. This is a power antenna wire that only receives power when on FM radio. You need to replace this with the Blue & White wire from the head unit (power control wire) to your remote turn-on on your amp. This should solve your issue.
