Question about Audio Players & Recorders

1 Answer

Maudio microtrack 2496

I did the steps you suggested. Once it reformatted I checked the max recording time and it indicated 00:00-1. I shut off the unit and tuned it back on. After rebooting it indicated 00:02:06 for max record time as it did before.

Thank you very much for sticking with it. The last suggestion you gave was the ticket..I am now back to 02:40:00 of recording time. You saved me a lot of frustration, nice job!

Won't record

Hi,
I suggest that you to select Reset to Factory Defaults in the System menu to soft reset reset the unit or by pressing Delete and the power button and holding them down to hard reset. Good luck!

I have a Sony MZ-M200. I want to transfer live recordings that I have made of my concerts on MD to CD. I can load the recordings into the computer. How do I then burn them onto a blank CD?

You would have to use the Sony MiniDisc software to burn them as a standard CD. A better solution is to buy an actual stand-alone stereo "CD Recorder" and go from the MiniDisc player to the CD Recorder and it will record directly, including track marks if you make it a digital dub! Check into getting a Phillips audio CD recorder, and Sony still makes a stand alone CD recorder as well.

Hello, My M-Audio microtrack 24/96 battery runs out so fast. What do I do? Is it time to change it? Is getting a new battery expensive? Do I not charge it long enough? I let it charge for at least 4 hours...

Similar problem to mine, and until I get my question answered, I can only propose a temporary solution.

Get a USB cable that fits the bottom small USB socket on your M-Audio Microtrack, but with a standard USB plug on the other end. Such a cable should have come with your Microtrack to begin with.

Replacement cables can be found at Best Buy, Radio Shack or most electronics stores or department stores. If the original cable is broken, please save it for reference to make sure you are getting the exact same type connectors when getting your replacement.

As I learned the hard way, not all small USB connectors are the same size, but APPEAR the same.

So, what are you connecting on the standard USB end?

A battery.

That's right, a rechargeable battery that features a power-only 5 volt USB receptacle. This will function as your A/C power adaptor does, only on the go.

The external rechargeable battery I use is a Black and Decker "Power to Go" unit that measures approx. 5 1/2"L X 3"W X 1" D.
It has both a low-draw two-prong AC (yes, it has an inverter and I never use it) and the desired 5V USB receptacle. You may find a better solution WITHOUT that A/C inverter. Just ask around for a rechargeable NmHh (better than NiCad) battery with a standard USB receptacle.

If the Microtrack's power is off when it is connected to the 5V power source (be it A/C power adaptor OR my proposed external battery), it will go into charge mode. With a fair amount of charge, remove the external power, and it boots up into operation. Then, re-connect the external power and your Microtrack is running and recording for a considerable longer time, depending on the charge and condition of your external battery.

Now, if one observes the LCD screen while running off of external power, the upper right corner box indicating the internal battery's charge shows "CHG" instead of the black square (Full charge) or half of the box in the form of a triagle (half charge) or any variation thereof as normaly indicated.

Someone might say, "But I don't want to have to carry around all this extra stuff! I want my old battery life back!"

Well, that's precisely how I feel as well.

But until you get your original lithium ion battery replaced (and at what cost for parts and labor?), you have to ask yourself if being an original condition purist is serving your situation well, or if this proposed add-on can get you by in the meantime.

Take care.
JJM

Microtrack screen is on and frozen

I was able to clear the same issue by removing the CF memory and erasing it using a USB card reader connected to my PC. I erased all the files and reinstalled the card in the Microtrack. Works fine now, must have been a corrupted file even though it only contained two mp3s I had recorded earlier.

MicroTrack Levels are off balance

That sounds like a hardware problem requiring a service. The front-case buttons are sensitive to pressure and I suspect that they go bad if stored where something is pressing against them.

This is suppose to hold hours of recording time and mine only holds a few minutes. How do I increase the time?????

Two things to try: make sure you have a big enough memory card for the intended format and recording time. I suspect you are trying to use the 16MB Compact Flash card that came in the box. A 1GB card will record much longer than the battery life in the Microtrack 24/96, even when recording 24-bit stereo in WAV format. If you have a smaller card, and want long recording times, use an MP3 format. Using the MP3 encoder, monophonic recording, 128K bits/sec, 44.1K samples/sec, you should be able to record over 16hrs of audio on a 1GB memory card. Same card, WAV encoder, 44.1K samples/sec, stereo, 24-bit audio will produce only a little over one hour of recording time. With the 64MB card that came with the recorder, the most you can record using WAV encoding, 24-bit audio, 44.1K samples/sec, is a little less than 4 minutes. With 16-bit audio about 6 min, and with mono and 16-bit audio about 12 min. With WAV, 24-bit audio, mono recording yields 7:52.
