The camera could be having a power or lens issue, and possibly card holder pin problem, unless the card's protection tab got accidentally set to "lock".
The following two websites detail the steps of things to try, and can often get a camera back working again.
This blog deals with power problems, and is the first thing to check.
http://camerarepair.blogspot.com/2007/11/simple-fix-for-dead-cameras-that-wont.html
Since lens issues can cause a lens to not initialize, the following blog might help:
http://camerarepair.blogspot.com/2007/12/fixing-lens-error-on-digital-camera.html
If none of these steps helps, contact Fuji for support:
http://www.fujifilm.com/support/
You can get an estimate for repair from them, if needed, and also compare it to a local shop's offer, in case you don't want to send it out.
Good luck, and hope this helps.

Screen says "Memory Card Protected" and will not take pictures.

Look at your memory card. SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the metal contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

I have a digital camera and the model is C1033 , i put a san disc drive card in with a memory card in the san disc and on christmas day it worked fine, a few days later i couldnt take a picture and it says...

Sound like the card is corrupted. Take it out and try in a card reader, search for image recovery software if you can't read the card properly. When you've finished trying to get the images off the card format the card and retry in the camera.

Card protected

Use a separate card reader to download your pics. Then, you can format the card in the camera to get it to work properly.

Camera screen says card protected... wont let me take pictures.

Check your memory card to ensure that there is no read-only switch on the edge of the card, and that it is not turned to read-only. That would stop the card from accepting further data being written to the card.

Fujifilm Card Protection wont turn off.

Hello,
For the newborn's picture the solution is simple: transfer them to your computer either directly from camera, or by making use of a card reader.
By the way Congratulations for the baby.

If card is defective change it and use another one.

Hope it helps.
