Question about Vanguard International Blue Flame - Large Open Flame Mid-Size Heater

2 Answers

Since yesterday, my blue flame propane vp30bt ventless heater won't stay lit for more than a few minutes. The pilot light starts off small sometimes, the size of a pea. In the last year, the heater would go out from time to time. The propane tank was just filled.

My blueflame gas heater won't stay lit

So we are talking about the same won't stay lit I will describe both ways. One is when you lift your fingers off the knob it goes out that instant which is probably the thermocouple needs replaced, look to make sure the tip of the thermocouple is in the flame of the pilot light first. The secound version of it is it goes out in a few minutes up to a few hours. The second version is most common. There is a part called a Thermocouple that is mounted next to the pilot light, it is around 3/16 of a inch diameter 1 to 2 inches long and should be mounted so the tip is in the flame of the pilot light. This is what tells the gas valve the pilot light is burning. If any dust ,cat hair ,dog fur what have you gets around the base of the hole the gas from this pilot light comes out of it will bend the gas, which move the flame so it does not hit the thermocouple like it should, this is below the flame so what ever is in there diverting the flame dose not burn up.A draft from a fan or door could do it also.I have used a procom ventless heater as my only heat for 7 years and have to blow it out twice a year. I bought a new thermocouple at the same time I bought the heater to have in the closet in case it went bad some night, it is still hanging there .Because it sucks air in from the bottom past the flame and out the top everything in the air gets burnt into a fine ash dust. So if you use compressed air to blow out your unit you might want to hold a wet towel up in front of it hoping a lot of that white powder dust will stick to it instead of flying around the room . My flame always looks so much better ,less orange and more blue after this .

I have a Mr Heater infra red propane wall heater. My problem is it turns itself off (pilot light) after running for an hour or two. I have no problem getting it turned back on but for some reason it d

Your pilot flame should be blue with a small yellow tip, and it should cover the thermocouple (a small rod in front of the pilot light). If the flame is too small and doesn't cover the thermocouple, it may be adjusted too low, or you have low gas pressure or you have a leak in your gas line coming in to the heater. If the flame looks like a lazy yellow flame, you are probably not getting enough air to the flame. Check that your air openings around the pilot are not clogged up. If the flame looks like a waving blue flame then you probably have excessive draft at the pilot. If the pilot flame looks good and covers the thermocouple, then the thermocouple might be bad. Best of luck. I hope I have helped.

Pilot won't stay on

Burners don't have anything to do with the problem of pilot not lighting. Is the problem that flame will not 'stay' lit? Or you can't even get a flame to ignite? If former: possible bad pilot generator or bad gas valve. If latter, possible bad gas valve or no fuel to ignite.

I have a ventless heater. The polite will stay lite, but when you turnit on it will only stay lite for 10 to 15 minutes then goes out polite and all

The odp pilot is probably dirty and causing it to shut off due to a false 'low oxygen' situation. Turn the unit off and let it cool completely. Have a drinking straw handy. Locate the opening for the pilot light and use the straw to blow a stream of air across the top of (not into) the pilot assembly. This will create a small vacuum and pull the small particles of dust out of the pilot head. Re-light the pilot light. Note that it should be much stronger and 'bluer' than it was previously. Turn the heater to 'on'. If this does not solve your issue, I would replace the thermocouple. Hope this helps.

Pilot light won't light on ventless fireplace

Ventless Gas logs, Vanguard, VS30PR. Propane gas
Pilot light stays lit various times, sometimes for several days then other times for a few minutes. Lights best when temp outside is below freezing. Pilot flame appears to receive too much air. How do you adjust the pilot flame? Is this done using two screws marked A & E? Do you have suggestions?
Thanks,
Ed

I HAVE A DESA LP VENTLESS FIREPLACE AND THE PILOT WILL NOT STAY LIT

the heater makes use of a millivolt generator which generates a small dc voltage (500-750mv) that is applied to the pilot valve of your main gas valve. when you light your pilot, the flame bathes the generator with a flame. after a delay you release the pilot button. if the generator is working, the pilot valve will stay lit. if the generator is not working the flame will go out as soon as you release the pilot button. change the generator.
