Question about Pioneer Avic-x920bt GPS Receiver

1 Answer

I have installed an AVIC-X-920BT into a 2000 Toyota 4-Runner. Once installed, not all of the ICONS are available - example address entry on GPS (however, POI icons, etc. are lit). Any thoughts?

I think you have it hooked up correctly, but I would say that if some icons are missing, the signal may not be getting to the unit for the respective icons.

Maybe a missing input would cause not all of the icons to be available.

    Duane,

Thanks. Any thoughts on what to check?

I read over the information on that page, this is a very impressive item for your 2000 vehicle.
However, I'm not sure where to start with so many features, except to make sure the connections are tight and compatible with the inputs in question.

For instance, I know that if the back up camera is not connected, then the respective icons or features wouldn't work properly for that aspect.

Say, if your ipod cable isn't connected to the unit, then I would expect that iPod functions wouldn't work, either.

Or, if your blue tooth wasn't activated or on, then I would expect that the bluetooth feature wouldn't work.

All correct and verified. The GPS antenna is hooked-up and since I get POI data and maps, I would suspect it is correctly installed as well.

I still cannot get specific icons that I believe should be lit. I am beginning to wonder about the parking brake connection and will check in shortly.

The brake switch connection if not connected properly or surely would deactivate certain features that might be distracting while driving. That's for sure.

    From the manual:

For safety reasons, these route-setting functions
are not available while your vehicle is in motion.
To enable these functions, you must stop in a
safe place and put on the parking brake before
    setting your route.

That was for the prior model the 910, I read about from Retrevo.
I know yours is the 920 but they are similar in design, I would think.

pull the parking brake and most of the icons should appear

The e-brake wire is required for these settings to be available. It has to be wired in as a safety measure. (So that the brake is engaged when you are fumbling with the settings, and not driving)
