Question about Honda Mmd 5000 Watt Electric Start Generator W/ Engine Ngk 6000HE

1 Answer

Have a EB5000X generator which has staring problems, aprx 8 yrs old and not used a great deal until hurricane Ike came thru here and it ran for several days with minimal down time. Afterwards I changed the oil (replaced with honda oil) and started it as usual every month for aprx 15 min run time. recently I had to change the fuel to fresh since it has been sitting for several months, always have StaBil fuel additive in my equip. ie lawn mowers motorcycles etc.that sit idle during the winter months. Now the problem is after replacing the fuel I had to clean the carb now it starts better but won't idle up when a load is in place.

If I understand the problem correctly, it runs fine after you cleaned the carb, but the auto idle will not engage when you put a load on it. First if it has a switch to turn the auto idle off try that. if it does not rev up, then the magnetic controller is stuck. There is a magnetic coil which is connected to the throttle and this either pulls or releases the throttle when load is applied. My guess is that this is hung up a bit. Look for a small round coil with wires coming off it that is connected to the throttle assembly. You could also try tracing the wire from the auto idle switch backwards. This may just be stuck in the idle position by corrosion. especially if you live in a humid area or one near the ocean. gently try to work it a bit by hand (when the generator is not running) and try a bit of wd40 or the like.

My eb5000x is all good except the auto idle is inop. Worked 3 or 4 times while switching a drill on and off this year. It has power to the solinoid, 20 volts, when engaging the drill it slowly tapers the voltage down to about 13 volts. But never releases. When I unplug the solinoid it instantly goes to governed speed as it should on it's own. No binding linkage detected. Any thoughts? EB, Dallas Tx.

Is this a natural gas fueled generator? Sounds like a fuel problem, i would go through the fuel system and find out whats wrong. If its a natural gas/propane unit its most likely a bad regulator or low pressure.

My freezer not getting cold. it is about 10 yrs old and after Hurricane Ike it stop freezing.

if the fan run and does not freeze, possible compressor or compressor start kit. Start kits that a beating in stormy weather. Start kits consist of a relay, capicator and overload sensor. These 3 parts can be ordered seperately or a generic start kit with all the of these made in one. if the compressor is bad on a 10 year old freezer you might want to look at a new freezer

I need the setting for my coleman power generator 10hp tecumseh

If you have fire coming out of the carb, then your intake valve is stuck open. Take the head off, and as you turn the engine, tap on the valve with a plastic screwdriver handle to make it go in, then turn it more to push it back out. If you need to put a light coating of oil on it, so be it. Keep doing this until it's freed up, then put it back together.

I have never heard that generators need to be perfectly level to prevent generator damage. It doesn't compute -- auto generators/alternators run at all sorts of angles -- so do motors. And for the damage to occur in 2 hours running doesn't sound right either.

It does sound like the generator itself is not working/generating properly, but I doubt it was caused by the slab.

Problem with oven door latch

Hello noahsark,

Welcome to Fixya

You said, after Hurricane Ike, when the electricity came back on, you noticed the oven door latch was in lock position and the door would not close because it would hit the door latch. You guess the door latch locked on it's own with the surge of electricity but did not lock the door in place. And that you have never used the self cleaning oven, so the door latch has never been used. How can I get the latch to unlock itself?

Was the range get under water?
If so there may be some shorts in it or faulty electronic parts!

Try turning the range off and then turning the power off at the breaker for 5 minutes.
This is should reset the system in an electronic range.
If it works , great .
If not you may need service to diagnose your electronic problem.
Let me know that it works!!!!!

Send me the Brand and mode;l number.

Please remember to leave a rating when you finish.

It might be that your fridge went into something called 'demo mode' that shuts the compressor down so as not to waste electricity on the showroom floor. The freezer and fridge sides both start to warm up, but the temperatures shown on the outside of the door never change, so you don't know you have a problem until you open the fridge or freezer and find you have a melted mess. My Samsung is 7 years old and we run into this problem frequently when our power is on and off, like just recently with hurricane Ike. Per the Samsung website, the cure for 'demo mode' is to unplug the fridge for 1 minute then plug it back in. They also suggested pressing Power Freeze and Freezer Temp together for 8 seconds until you hear a chime to cancel demo mode. Good luck. I really dislike this machine.
