The hard drive is an Enhanced IDE interface with Ultra-DMA transfer mode 2 that is 9.5 mm high. The Ultrabay Slim is designed for frequent drive changes.

For more specs and information, see http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-58832.html .

I hope this helps.

Are all hard drives the same in size? I mean can I take a hard drive 36 GB and put it in a IBM Lenovo ThinkPad X41?

Laptops hard drives have the same physical size but they maybe use IDE/PATA or SATA data connections.
This WEB site has the specs of this model Thinkpad.

Need info about series

The type of drive is IDE and 2.5- Inch for all those models.

T20, T21, T22, T23 --- 2647 all use the same IDE type of drive.

These you can buy for example in ebay. Search for laptop hdd ide 2.5inch or similar.

Don't think CrunchBang Linux support SATA hard drives. Try setting mode to IDE/Legacy, might work.

My laptop ibm thinkpad r52 my problam:-my upgread hard disk 160gb.but no sport to 160gb hard disk.my laptop on to message ERROR 2010:- The hard disk driver you have installed has not been qualified for use...

You are most likely trying to place a larger hard drive in the pc than the operating system will recognize. If you are using winXp you will need to slipstream the SP2 packet update into the CD...Could be with that R52 the bios will not support large disk volume either..

My hard drive isn't recognized and I cannot install windows xp operating system. Don't know if I may have a bad motherboard.... the bios is in good condition...

can you see your hard drive when you go into the bios settings?
if you don't then your hard drive may be bad.
you can order a new hard drive from newegg.com
please check if your hard drive is SATA or IDE. I believe it is SATA.

Wat is the maximum hard space that a IBM thinkpad t22 can have

> maximum

The maximum is 500 GB (for the older-generation of IDE-interface disk-drives), since nobody makes IDE drives larger than 500 GB, or 2000 GB for the new generation of SATA disk-drives.

Does not recognize hard drive

1. try reseating it if that doesn't help you might have a hard-drive failure. the only way to be sure is trying a replacement drive (maybe you can borrow from someone or from another laptop - currently on laptops there are 2 types of hard drives IDE and SATA don't mix them up, they are not interchangable)

Please advise me new ssd will fit into ibm thinkpad t41 laptops

Yes, just get one the same size (typically 2.5") and interface (IDE or SATA).

FYI: It is important to note that SSD is typically faster than an HD but they use more power so will reduce the battery life in a notebook. I upgraded my notebook to a 7200 RPM HD which is much faster than the original 5400 RPM HD without sacraficing battery life to SDD.

I hope this helps.

Dead hard drive, old computer.

Ok here you go.
You will need to remove the old hard drive and you can download the manual here.
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=PFAN-3T5R74
The hard drive removal is on pages 64 and 65. This looks like it is easier than most to replace.

You can obtain a new drive from Tiger Direct. That is where I get most of my parts.
You only need to make sure that the drive is 2.5" and IDE.
Do not get an SATA drive.
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/category/category_slc.asp?Recs=10&Nav=|c:1277|&Sort=4

Looks like you can get 120GB for under $50.00
Since your system came with a 2-3 Gig hard drive you will have much more room on the new one. After it is installed you should be able to boot the recovery disks and be on your way.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.
If I've managed to answer your question or solve a problem, please take just a moment to rate this post....thanks!

Use second hard drive

The Windows operaring system is on your 1st drive (ie C drive) and if you change it to a slave drive the computer won't work.
You need to set the jumper on the 2nd hard drive as a slave drive and leave the original drive as the master drive expecially if the 2nd drive is on the same IDE controller and cable as the 1st. hard drive.
It doesn't matter if the 2nd drive is set to master or slave if it is on the 2nd controller.
When you boot up you should see both hard drives and can copy files from one drive to another.
