I recently had an issue with the ice-maker in my side-by-side GE refrigerator/freezer (model # TFX22CR XA-WW). I did some research and found that GE no longer made the ice-maker for my model but there was a replacement part ($142.50) listed on their web site. However, some posts on various web sites seemed to indicate that the new replacement part did not fit with the old ice bucket. Thus, I would also need to replace the ice-bucket ($250+).
Before I purchased anything, I decided to ask the people at GE if I needed to replace my ice bucket if I replaced my ice-maker. Their response:
"Thank you for contacting GE. GE no longer has any technical support available, either via phone, email, or website. The only thing GE recommends is an appointment be setup with a factory authorized service technician."
I called their 800 number and was told that it would be a minimum of $75 to have someone come out to my home to tell me if GE had designed the replacement ice-maker such that I would also need to replace my ice bucket. Huh?
I won't be buying GE appliances anymore. I would sincerely appreciate it if anyone had any insight for less than $75.
