Hi, is it a metal wire connected at bottom with a 2-3inch spring? If it is so, it secures the "bellow to the front lip of the machine. You will need to stretch it over the front "bellow lip after installing the "bellow"

Front door rubber seal

Fairly easy to do. It is held on with 2 wire rings, one on the outside edge of the seal when you open the door and when that is removed there is another one holding it to the outer drum. Removal of the lid may also help with removal of the inner ring. When refitting you press the lip of the seal over the outer drum edge and fit the retaining ring back and then do the same on the front where the door meets the seal. Just make sure the small drain holes in the seal are located at the bottom, best to look at the old one to see how it's fitted before you remove it.

do you mean from the bottom of door? if so open door and run your fingers around the rubber gasket to see if there is any forign matter or rips, and check the small drain hole on the inside bottom of gasket, if there is a tear you could repair with a bicycle innertube repair patch

If you are referring to a wire hoop with a small spring at one end, this is called the outer bellow clamp. This clamp holds the door bellow (gray rubber seal in place) around the perimeter of the door opening. If the spring is missing or worn, you need to replace it. The part number is 8182211 and costs about $5. You can purchase parts at any of the following websites:

searspartsdirect.com
pcappliancerepair.com
appliancepartspros.com
repairclinic.com

The first three sites have illustrated parts listings to show you how the washer is assembled. If you need guidance on how to reinsert the bellow clamp, skip down to step 12 in the following link:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3574186-installing_a_door_bellow_on_a_front_load

Make sure the door bellow is fitting properly all the way around the door frame opening. Then insert the clamp in the groove where the rubber fits over the frame. If you're installing it correctly, the clamp will not be visible when you're done. Also, if installed correctly, you should NOT have to reinstall the clamp everytime you do laundry. These clamps usually fit very tight. What can contribute to them coming loose is overloading the washer and having something get caught in the bellow.

If you still need guidance, please post back and let me know. I hope this helps you.

Rubber gasket

Hi,

Feel around the seal, in the groove behind the seal face. You'll find a spring at the bottom. With a small screwdriver, lever the spring over the seal face. Work the steel ring off. Fold the seal inside the washer. Unplug the washer, Remove the door, and set aside. Locate your panel screws and remove the front, exposing the drum and basket. There are usually additional screws under the dispenser trays too. Disconnect the door lock wires. Locate the other spring/ring assembly on the outer drum, and remove. Orient your new seal properly and reassemble. The only difference on the reassembly is that, when you are putting the rings back on, start 180 degrees from the spring, and work the ring back on until you get to the spring. Carefully lever the spring back over the seal face, being careful not to damage your new seal.
Best regards, --W/D--

Metal ring fell off

If you are talking about a small metal hoop with a spring on one end, it is the outer bellow retaining clamp. The bellow is the rubber door seal. The retaining ring inserts into a groove in the rubber seam around the perimeter of the door where it attaches to the door frame. To reinstall, first make sure the door boot is fitting snugly around the door frame opening. Sometimes when the retaining spring comes loose, the rubber may pull away from the door frame. Beginning at the top of the door, start inserting the wire hoop back into the groove. Make sure the wire spring points towards the bottom. As you work your way around the door to the 4 and 8 o'clock positions, you will need to maintain some constant downward pressure while pulling the spring apart in order to snap it back into place with your thumbs. It would be advisable to use a second set of hands to hold the wire hoop in place while doing this as it has the tendency to want to come out of the groove.

If this is not the spring you are talking about, please post back and elaborate a bit more on what the part looks like to see if I can assist you better. (i.e., size, dimension, where you found the part, etc.)

I hope you find this information helpful.

Washer door seal is loose

The rubber seal fits over the lip around the door opening. Carefully seat the rubber seal all the way around the door opening first. Then, place the wire hoop in the crease where the rubber seal fits over the lip. Insert the hoop with the spring pointing at the bottom. Starting at the top and work your way around the door opening to the 4 and 8 o'clock positions. While holding the hoop in place, stretch the spring apart enough to allow the rest of the hoop to snap into the crease at the bottom of the door opening. You may need a second pair of hands to help you with this. Good luck and I hope this helps you.
