  • eily81 Jan 02, 2011

Hi jgroves, thanks for answering. I think it's overheating, after I installed the A10 bios upgrade from dell.com my laptop suddenly shuts down and after I tried to turn it on it shuts down after a few seconds only. An hour after, I tried to turn it on and it shuts down after a pair of minutes...

what about this " [Damage Warning]:
When you flash this BIOS, you can not roll back to previous BIOS version.
If you roll back to previous BIOS , It will cause NVRAM corruption." and how could I install an older version that i already downloaded ?

Try going back to the previous version of the BIOS to see whether the problem continues. You can download older versions from the Dell website and install them over the existing version.

If this does resolve the issue, I would report the problem to Dell and as a precaution inspect the fan and the ventilation screens and ducts for debris and clean as required.
If you're good with a screw driver and the laptop is no longer under warranty, you might even consider taking the laptop apart to clean out any dust build-up from the ventilation ducts.
If this answer is any help at all, please rate either 3 or 4 thumbs. (1 or 2 thumbs are considered "horrible" and "bad")
Thank you for using FixYa and have a Happy New Year!

If you go back to the Dell support site, and search for your model Vostro, you will see the current BIOS listed. Click on the "Dell - BIOS" link. On the next page, you will see a link to "Other versions". Download the A09 version and install it.

and what about this " [Damage Warning]:
When you flash this BIOS, you can not roll back to previous BIOS version.
If you roll back to previous BIOS , It will cause NVRAM corruption. " ? it is safe to install and older version as you told me?

In that case, your only option is to clean the vents as well as you can, report the issue to Dell and hope that they come out with the A11 version to address the issue.

SOURCE: Dell Vostro 3500 suddenly shut down, start up and

this is happening because of bios upgrade but not in a bad way. May be there is a hardware problem just starting so new bios upgrade is detecting that and thats why its restarting.

basically sudden shut down occurs in either cases- Fan not working or hard disk(or RAM) gone bad.

my advise is to contact dell customer support and they will guide you thru trouble shooting steps.
they will guide you if your warranty is not there.

The problem is with copper connector connecting battery. Battery may be loose. Try putting duct tape from battery to laptop chassis. Hope this will fix the problem.

Water pilled in my dell vostro 3500 , i left it to dry for several days and till now it doesn't work , the screen is off even the power is on , and also fan on , light is fine to. what is the pro

The water is inside the machine on the motherboard and is causing a short, I recommend removing the main battery unplug the power supply open up laptop and lay it face down on a thick towel to assorb any moisture coming out from the keyboard, but I strongly suggest a pro take it apart for a cleaning provided the main board can be saved.

My dell vostro 3500 suddenly shutdown always im in game as SC2 is related to cpu or gpu or anything else? tnx

It sounds like your system is over heating. If the system is shutting down it will be over heating on the CPU and shutting off to prevent fatal damage to the CPU. If it were the GPU over heating it would simply video lock.
Vostro is a business class machine so it is not designed to handle gaming and could be exactly why it is having this issue. The system is being over worked performing a task it is not technically capable of doing.
You can purchase a laptop cooler pad to create additional cooling solutions, but this may not help since the system is not designed to play games.

Sudden spontaneous shutdown and reboot

This is a not good condition, as you can well imagine. There are many things that can cause this, I suggest that you START by looking in the event viewer, under administrative tools, in the control panel. If, for example, the hard drive was giving issues, an error would be listed there.
Another common issue is connectivity based issues, shut down the system, remove power cord and battery. Then remove and reseat the memory chip(s) and the hard drive, if you can remove it fairly easily on your model.
