SOURCE: No connection to PC

I had the same problem. The solution was so simple but I tried everything I could imagine before this: Remove cable from pc and garmin. Now.. the secret...FIRST switch on your garmin and then connect it to the cable and to the usb port of yor pc! That was is for me! So simple really but in every manual I read it said just connect it, it didnt say first switch it on!!

Once I conect my GPS to a usb cable, I get the black screen that says conect to computer, that being connected to the car. I thought that the gps needed to be coneected to the internet to get updates, I...

The screen your describe on your Garmin Nuvi is quite normal. It's the PC communication mode of the Nuvi. When disconnected from the PC it will automatically restart.

To update Nuvi software and maps - connect the Garmin to a PC / Mac using an USB cable. Then start your web browser (Internet Explorer / Firefox or similar) and go to MyGarmin.com.

To update the Garmin - MyGarmin.com will check if your webbrowser has been installed with the Garmin update plugin. If not it will say so and will lead you through the procedure to install the Garmin web browser plug-in.

After the web browser plugin is installed it will ask you for your Username and Password at MyGarmin.com. If not registered, then register yourself with the serial number of the Garmin Nuvi.

From here it's possible to update your Garmin Nuvi with new Nuvi software and maps using your username / password at MyGarmin.com

Lwont to update my garmin 1300 please

Plug your Garmin 1300 into your computer via the USB cable then go to www.garmin.com and check for any available updates. Being a 1300 you should not need to update it quite yet but if there are updates available this is where you will find them. If there is a specific issue with your 1300 that is occuring contact customer service and they will be able to assist you with additional support. Good Luck

Unit freezes at the loading maps stage

Yes! Yes! The exact same thing is happening to my nuvi 1300 right now one month after yours. What did you figure out? Can someone help? I've also tried to do the clear the device by pushing the right hand corner of the screen while powering on and I do not get any sort of 'would you like to clear everything?' message that I'm suppose to get. I'm going to check into battery recall that I heard about, but I don't think it's for the Nuvi 1300. Someone help! A :)

Can I update my Garmin without a charge? It wasn't even current when it was purchased!

Well, I can on my TomTom, You go to their, Garmin web site and register, then you can "Update" via the internet. First though you must install any drivers & software on your PC. Generally you download this or it self installs when you connect your unit via the cable to the USB port.

No connection to PC

Cause of all these problems may be as simple as faulty USB cable. I had initially bought cable on e-bay when i described problem below and didn't think cable was faulty as got the green loading bar etc. Subsequently tried another cable from a digital camera and gps began charging but no green loading bar etc. Finally borrowed cable from friend with similar model and it all worked perfectly: began charging, managed to register (and get the free 2009 maps update) etc. so problem could be the cable. Garmin sell it on their website for 7 euro but I'm sure there are cheaper alternatives in Electronics shops.
