Question about Kitchen Ranges

1 Answer

My Kenmore gas stove is igniting, but the gas flow keeps turning on and off. Both the broiler and the stovetop burners have steady flow. Is there an easy fix that is safe for me to perform, or do I need a repair person?

either the gas valve for that particular burner isnt opening,or if all burners are like this then the dual valve that feeds the broiler and stovetop has a bad stove top side of valve portion its underneath the oven cavity behind the lower pan drawer

The oven will not light and is throwing a breaker. Is this something fixable? It has been slow to light for a while now, and we usually have to turn on one of the stovetop burners in order to get the oven...

can you access the ignition module,if so try using one of the connections from the module that ignites a stove top burner and see if this line connected to the oven lights the oven now and doesn't throw the breaker, then you would know that section of the module is defective

Gas stovetop works but oven will not come on. Digital display shows that it is on but the oven does not come on.

sounds like you have a bad gas ignitor. It is under the bottom plate and sits on the burner and is held in with 2 1/4 inch screws.8273075 should be the part number for your ignitor....the model number you gave is incomplete so it's hard to tell but hopefully that will help you out

Oven will not ignite, but broiler and stovetop work . How to light the pilot light on the oven??

Most modern stoves no longer have a pilot. The problem is more than likely caused by a bad igniter on the bake manifold. The following link explains igniter types and how to replace one:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r401858-replacing_oven_igniter_gas_range

Modern stoves are equipped with either a glow-bar or spark type igniter. These igniters do become weak with age and fail. This tends to be more common with the bake feature because it gets used more often. If the igniter is worn to the point that it longer produces the correct current potential or spark, the gas valve will not open and you will not have ignition. This is actually a designed safety feature that prevents free flowing gas from entering the oven cavity without ignition. Such a condition would be dangerous and could cause a flash ignition or explosion.

If the model number you have this listed under is correct, you can see an illustration of your stove at appliancepartspros.com. Just type in the model number and look under the "Gas Burner Parts" section for item number 28 (part #AP2014008).

If you have questions, or require additional assistance, please post back and let me know. I hope this is helpful to you.

One stovetop burner does not initiate igniter sparking.

Its most likely the igniter. It might just be dirty, but its easy to install a new one. They are attached by two screws and a single plug. I'd suggest turning the power off to the stove before plugging in a new one.

I have the same problem intermittently on my Super Cap 465. After reading the following quote from another site, "There have been cases where radio waves, electronic signals and sometimes something as strange as dimmers in lights have caused some weird problems with some computer panels in stoves like these", I tried turning off lights that might be on the same circuit and wouldn't you know it, the oven igniter circuit worked.

its possible your gas regulator is bad or the gas line to the ignitor is stopped up look at the line and see if some type of food has blocked the outlet

Burners on gas stove work but oven and broiler not working

Most ovens, unless they have an electric igniter (does it go tick tick tick when plugged in and turned on? If so, it has an electic ignition.) have a pilot light. In order to keep gas from flowing out, and to prevent a possible explosion when the pilot light has gotten put out, they have an electric thermocouple on them that shuts off the gas when it gets cold. Plug the cord back in, and relight your pilot light by holding the lighter (I recommend a fireplace match or bbq lighter, not a cigarette lighter to prevent singed knuckle hairs!) over the thermocouple for a couple of minutes.

WHY WON'T MY OVEN HEAT UP?

Most modern gas ovens and many broilers use a "glow-bar" style of igniter that glows red-hot to ignite the gas. If the igniter doesn't reach the proper temperature, the gas valve won't open. You may need to replace the igniter.
