The TV was connected by HDMI to HDMI cable --. Are you saying we should not try to reconnect it that way?

  • Silverpengui Jan 02, 2011

did you get my previous comment where I said we used hdmi cables? -- Because I just received this response again

Cable box is fine. Tested it out on another TV. TV get power, but the screen stays dark like it is off. I believe that the back light is what is wrong. Does this sound right?

Thanks for your help, but you didn't give us anything to do we would be comfortable doing, beyond just rehooking up.And a cursory look for something obvious.

I have an American express guarantee that will fix or replace the TV, but was hoping for a simple way or reconnecting or determining the extent of damage. I'm not willing to risk causing major damage voiding the warranty, etc., as an amateur working on something I know nothing about. Or spending a substantial amount of time finding out it is something we
can't fix anyhow. I'll chalk up the $12 to win some, lose some & take it to a service center for an estimate.

Hi.

The only thing you can do at a user level is the following power reset and testing. If that does not work, then the TV must be disassembled and tested at component level by a technician:

Turn off TV and any connected device.
Disconnect TV power cord.
Disconnect any connected device (eventually mark cables with stickers first)
Connect back receiver box only using HDMI.
Connect back power cables of TV and box.
Turn receiver on first.
Turn on TV.
Eventually use the Source/Input button to locate a source.

If still does not work, check if the TV displays on screen menu or not. If there is no on screen display or raster, try using a replacement cable.

If still no luck after the above, then the TV must be tested by a technician. In that case use your warranty to get the set repaired.

Best regards.

Ginko.

Hello,

Maybe you did not get the TV and receiver connection right, that's why there is neither video or audio.

Using a RCA (Yellow, white and red wire) connection, connect the yellow (video) from video out of the receiver to video in of the TV. The same goes to Audio (red and white wire).

Turn on the receiver, put your TV on AV and there should be a display and sound. If there isn't sound/video, then maybe there is some disconnection in the TV when it fell over.

Get a screw driver, disassemble the TV, remove the TV back cover and carefully check all the components on the TV board. Make sure every thing is intact before assembling back the TV together.

But I believe there should be any damage in your TV. I just hope is a mere wrong connection problem between the TV and receiver.

Also, check the back receiver, make sure all wire connections are intact.

Good luck.

Yes, don't connect it that way, use RCA connection method. This will help to reveal if there is a problem with the TV or not.

Okay, that is no problem at all. Just keep in touch when you need more assistance.

    Hello,

do you have a small TV or another TV so that you can use it to test the receiver and see if it will work. This will make us know exactly if the problem is from the receiver or if there is some kind of disconnection in the TV when the TV fell over.

If the receiver works on another TV, then maybe the video can or something else has been disconnected inside the TV which will make you end up disassembling the TV.

    Good luck.

That's close, but at least the sound should come up if its actually a back light or display problem. I think there is more to this problem.

    Have you disassembled the TV?

You may have a faulty T-con board or bad connections at the screen sockets, the contacts on the flexible circuits can be cleaned with an eraser but be carefull not to bend or in any way damage these ,the result will be the need to replace the whole set..
